You know, that 2008 team was more talented than what you think. In the 2009 NFL draft, 6 NFL draft picks Jackson 1st round DL, Q. Johnson FB-RB 5th round, Herman Johnson, 5th Round OL, Curtis Taylor 7th ROund DB and D. Byrd 7th Round WR (but remember he had that car wreck and never came back), if you go to the 2010 draft (JR's on 2008 team), 6 more NFL picks Chad Jones, Perry Riley and Al Woods on Defense and Bradon Lafell, 3rd Round WR, Trindon Holliday and Charles Scott both 6th round.

So in 2008, RP would have had 6 guys that got drafted in the next 2 NFL drafts playing with him. Steven Ridley got drafted in 2011, he was a Redshirt Freshman on the 2008 team and Joe Barksdale also got drafted.

So that is a total of 8 NFL offensive draft picks that all played significant snaps in 2008 that would have surrounded RP.

I think we would have won it all in either 2008 or 2009 with Perrilloux at QB.

Perrilloux wasn't some savior. Perrilloux didn't play because of Perrilloux.

These hypotheticals assumed he would have exercised self control and exibited common sense while he was here.

Ryan Perrilloux's debacle was the start of LSU's slide downward at QB. Him not becoming what LSU needed him to be hurt LSU. Had he panned out and had the brilliant career it looked like he would have, LSU would have had more success recruiting QB's. That setback LSU's QB position for years.

Jarrett Lee.

Florida GW

That release was sick.

People hate on him but I have better memories of him than not. He was a tough fella.

I saw two of his playoff appearances at East St John, both loses. The cat could play.

Thanks for mentioning this.

I prefer to remember our players at their best, not their worst.

Without JL, '10 and '11 look way different. In '10, we likely lose to UTenn and UF. And he made a clutch 3rd down pass late vs Bana.

I would suggest Les would not have survived '10 with losses.

And some irony, I think JJ is the only QB in our history to have started 4 bowl games. OTOH, JL only took like 1 or 2 snaps.

Les did some really odd things at times.

He ran the option as smooth as glass in the SEC tittle game. Would have loved to see him succeed at LSU. What a shame.

All the 2008 talk makes me think of Crowton at OC, wasn't he labeled "the wizard" or some such shite?

If he was the wizard then Brady is freaking Medivh and Gandalf's bastard love child!

Lmao

The O woes of post-08 were not due to Crowton.

Our O in '07 was magical. We pretty much toyed with the who's who of DCs as well.

No doubt LSU had some QB's that had talent. However, they never had the kind of depth that was needed and they never had the type of offense that attracted the top QB's in the land. Perrilloux was one of the top QB's in the land. LSU was not in a good position when he left the program.

That 2008 Defense if you subtract the Pick Sixes was not as bad as the stats suggest.....Pick Sixes that J. Lee threw, LSU is around 19.9 ppg
Combined with the fact that other INTs (10?) besides the Pic6 variety lead to points also.

Some of the "greatness" of the 2008 offense was due to playing from behind due to all the INTs, which in turn had the D playing on it's heels a lot, bad field position etc.
I put it Crowton couldn't alter his MO to suit the needs of the developed talent in 2008, and LSU had no buisness airing it out almost 400 times with Lee at QB.
