If that happens, and he has a lot of success, LSU would be stupid not to hire him, when BK is done.

Now that Jordy said he’s staying, might as well start putting together the replacement list.

Especially at LSU. The entire country swoops into LSU like vultures every time LSU hires a good coach.
we took him from Missouri

The key is this, does Baker think his route to a big job is better thru going to Tulane or staying at LSU.

It says “No Contact”. Period.

You’re right. I’m sure that source close to Baker would definitely tell Jordy, a media member who constantly runs his mouth, if Baker’s agents have been talking to Tulane.

Depends. Chip left ucla to be a coordinator and Gus left ucf to be coordinator

True but different points in their career. Think Chip was burnt out with all that comes with being a HC and fighting the admin at UCLA.

I assume Baker's goal is to be a HC and Tulane is a pretty attractive spot for a first time HC.

Obviously, just my opinion. Don't know what his aspirations are. He'd get to stay in LA too which I think is important to him based on the way he talked about reasons for taking the gig last year.

At this point I’d rather retain baker than Kelly.

I believe he's stated his wife is from Mandeville. Fringe top 25 job in Louisiana with some NIL commitment close to family is hard to pass up. Doesn't hurt that the previous coaches have moved up as well.

Really tough if we lose Baker after one year, and right before he gets the most talent to work with in his career to date. Hope not! But jumping to an HC spot is pretty understandable.

Absolutely NOT! Did LSU's defense improve? Yes....SOME! In 2023 LSU defensively gave up 28 ppg...2024 it was 24 which of course is better. Total yards given up went down from 404 to 335 per game. But LSU was 57th in scoring defense and 188th in forcing turnovers with a lousy 13 in 12 games. Also, wake me up when Baker figures out a way to stop a running QB...didn't do it against SC, Bama, Ole Miss, A&M, or OU at least in the first half. And OU had basically no WRers which is why Arnold ran almost every play. Baker did better than House but as far as some great DC, IMO he certainly didn't prove it this season!

Willie Fritz made $2.8 million the year before he left for Houston. Apparently they offered him $4.5 million to try to keep him at Tulane. Sumrall is reportedly making close to that $2.8 million right now.

Would be dumb to leave for ~$300k IMO

I don't see how LSU will ever be able to compete at the highest levels without some semblance of coaching consistency on either side of the ball.

I don’t disagree but I don’t know that it’s the only factor. Is it better to be a first time HC at a school like Tulane in the American or a first time HC at Mississippi State in the SEC or Oklahoma State in the Big 12? Just using them as an example but I honestly don’t know if there’s a right answer to that

No. Those coach in waiting arrangements rarely work out anyway.
