LSU should retire Guice #5 just to be petty

I agree. Jayden probably could have gotten on a podcast and voiced his displeasure (aka whined about something stupid), and I guarantee less than 1% of fans would have batted an eye.

He decides to create a distraction for LSU and himself weeks before opening day for the NFL and college football. And for that, most LSU fans will write him off.

The day LSU fans collectively decided Guice is the GOAT #5.

I don't necessarily agree with the automatic number retirement, but he's dead on about this being a horrible distraction, and he's going to kill any and all goodwill he has with this fanbase.

Jayden was 9-3 as the starter that year. Not 10-3. Jayden sat out the bowl game.
You know who didn’t? Malik Nabors, a guy who had just as much on the line.

Frick Daniels.

He played one quarter to break a record and then sat out. Let’s not get crazy, here.

I don't think any level headed fan held that against him in the moment. He was going to be a guaranteed top 3 pick in the draft, he gained nothing playing in the Reliaquest Bowl. Plus, it was the perfect opportunity for Nuss to get a start against a real team before the next season.

It made total sense at the time.

Maybe, though, he will not with me unless this gets uglier.

Also of note, in response to one of the comments, RGIII says
quote:

It’s not Jayden. It’s the team around him focused on this.

If BK is to be believed, Nabers wanted to keep playing but BK wouldn't let him risk it in a meaningless game. He let him play long enough to set the receiving yards record and sat him.

Those have been retired since that Virginia Tech game.

Seems everyone is team LSU on this issue. Jayden is really making an arse of himself here.

I like what RGIII said... jersey/number retirement is an honor, not something to be demanded. Well said!

If you believe that, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell.

Jayden Danies is supposed to love LSU, he should want what is best for the program and the players currently in the program. He is part of the culture that has attached 'respect' or legitimacy to a desire to wear a certain number.

DJ Pickett will be joining him in the NFL soon enough, he isnt a back up or role player on the team, and this promise was made to him. Daniels should recognize the position the program is in and find an behind the scenes way of having ALL look good....discussing the retiring of the number after this season. Just come out and say, "at LSU, if you are promised something, even if dumb, you get it, period"

He could have had fans outpour support for him, and put the blame solely on the back of BK..who we already hate.

Then had his number retired and all would be happy.

What ever NIL implications could have easily been worked out with a few phone calls and a couple lawyers.
