It's a fair point. But Orgeron's own actions and words, specifically about hiring Pelini, suggest he wasn't very engaged for a guy running a top CFB program.

another fair point is that 2020 and 2021 more closely resemble the rest of O's head coaching career than 2019 does.

You do know that LSU won in 2019 in spite of O right?

One of my favorite games ever. I was never as angry as the 2018 game, the refs cheated more than anything I'd ever seen. I told the faggies on secrant to gear up to get absolutely demolished, that we'd be getting our revenge and it wouldn't be pretty, we'd be skull dragging them up and down the field and it's exactly what we did. Revenge is so so sweet and no fan base deserves it more.

2016 - 6-2 (took over after Miles fired)
2017 - 9-4
2018 - 10-3
2019 - 15-0

Ole Miss was a dumpster fire for sure, but he actually improved each year here before falling off the cliff. He still needed to be fired though.

I agree that it wasn’t because of O, but it was still success that he was expected to handle and build upon. He failed miserably. I think his point was that success creates complacency in some, and that was clearly the case with O.

there have been 5 seasons where Ed Oregon was a head coach and the entire staff beneath him was brought in by him and not his predecessor.

2005
2006
2007
2020
2021

I still think Woodward jumped the gun - O had earned the chance to turn things around. 2020 was a non-season, so it was really just one .500 year after 15-0.

O has the mind of a 7 year old. He was never cut out to handle long term success. We caught a flash in the pan where all the stars aligned. Be happy with that and be happy he’s long gone. The shite he pulled at the end telling all the recruits to find other schools if he weren’t at LSU will never be forgotten. frick him.

Head coaches retain good staff all the time. By this metric, Kelly has to wait until Brad Davis leaves before he can meet this standard.

This always gets repeated on TD, but there’s zero chance y’all know if this is true or not

If it’s not true then he’s just a god-awful coach who needed to be fired anyway

What qualities did Ed posses that would led us to believe that he could turn it around?

Once the Miles hires left at the coordinator spots, he showed he was pitiful at making OC/DC hires.

He's not an offensive minded developer of QB's

He's billed as an ace recruiter but time showed that he mainly star chased and didn't manage the roster well. It's why we were loaded at a handful of positions and dogwater at the others.

He didn't handle the media particularly well.

The best coordinator he ever had was Dave Aranda and he essentially ran Dave off with his macho man B/S.

There was really nothing there that would make you think that Ed even possessed the traits necessary to turn things around.

Until Woody hired Pellini.
The hand writing was on the wall.

If it is so difficult, how did O accomplish it, yet Kelly, with a satchel full of money, numerous assistants, and NIL, seem to drop further each year?

Cameron was Les's last OC hire. He was replaced by Ensminger as OC. Brady was an O hire.

Maybe O got lucky for a lazy, low character, immature individual, but I give him credit for '19. His team.

Fair enough on Ensminger. He was already if staff but I’ll give him that. Brady was as much an ensminger thing as it was an O hire. Brady was a coffee go getter and never would’ve gotten the job if it would’ve been up to Ed to identify him.

Every hire after that though was objectively horrible. Pelini, Peetz, Jones. Just one whiff after another.

That was the one and only game I've gone to at Tiger Stadium. Even saw myself on ESPN. Man that whole day was fun.

And NIL and the portal only made the job harder, the program would have been trashed.
