Saban hired Sam Petito away from UGA to ALA. SP was from Amite and developed strong bonds and trust with all these kids starting back to Shyheim Carter. Saban knew this was his “in” to Amite and Smitty ... the rest is history. Google Sam Petito if want to learn more.

Didn't know that. Maybe UGA wins the NC if Saban doesn't hire that dude.

Sucks but 2017 was our best class in a long time

Jefferson, Clyde, Queen, Stevens, Phillips, Chaisson, Ingram, Deculus, etc etc

It’s no secret that Louisiana puts out great talent. I know I’m biased but I feel like it’s a dead heat between us and the state of Florida for the absolute best.

The issue is numbers. Louisiana is a small less populated state but per capita LSU is up there with any state. When it comes to raw numbers of athletes Louisiana just doesn’t have enough power 5 level players year in and year out to compete with Florida, Texas, California, or Georgia

Yeah I actually think the last 3 classes O has kept the in state talent pretty good. It seems like sospher was the biggest fish that got away and hes an enormous bust

Right, but Louisiana isn’t just “up there with other states”; it’s #1 by itself in per capita talent. Like you said, though, not nearly the numbers that several other states have.

The true power of the "analyst" hire. Some of those guys don't actually work except as unofficial recruiters.

For comparison: In 2021, Louisiana had 11 guys who were composite 4-star recruits or better. Florida had 57 guys who were composite 4-star recruits or better.

It's not a dead heat lol

There are reasons to criticize O. But his ability to keep in-state talent at LSU isn't one of them. Like you said, Sopsher is the only guy I can think of since 2018 who LSU REALLY wanted and didn't get.

The equalizer is teams can only sign 25 though. LA puts out plenty enough talent to support a top team. So it doesnt matter. The bigger issue is that LA puts out great skill players regularly but not many QBs or linemen. This has been LSU's weakness

I went through year by year on the RB a week or two ago, and there are only three top-10 LA recruits who have gone to Bama since 2018: Sopsher (2019), Christian Harris (2019), and Kaine Williams (2021). I don’t think we recruited Harris (though in hindsight we probably should have). Sopsher was a bust. And Williams would have been the #3 safety in our 2021 class.

People are still salty over Moses, Smith, etc. and I get that, but Orgeron has done a pretty good job of getting the LA guys he’s targeted since the interim year.

Coach o has done well keeping the in state talent. One thing that bugs me though, is Alabama would not and could not be winning like they are without Louisiana talent. We have sent them key players, all americans, and now a heisman winner over the last decade.

Harris and Van Pran had pretty much zero interest in LSU for whatever reason. Can’t really fault O for that.

see Chris Allen's dad fairly regularly and he's said more than once that Chris was going to LSU until Les got fired.

It’s understandable that recruits had some trepidation at the time during a period of transition at LSU
