Rate your top 5 Qb's of all-time at LSU...
My favorite top 5.
1. Herb Tyler - all he did was win, never has gotten the credit he deserved. IMO the best Tiger Qb ever as far as reaching his full potential.
2. Alan Risher - was Qb of the 1982 team that made me fall in love with LSU football. Still to this day my favorite LSU team ever.
3. Rohan Davey
4. Tommy Hodson
5. J. Russell
Ponchy......we must be around the same age.
From my frame of reference, I don't think I would change a thing. Of course Flynn and Mauck get honorable mention do to the NC's.

In no particular order (and I only go back to 1970):
1) Bert Jones
2) JaMarcus Russell
3) WoodSminger ('77-'79)
4) Herb Tyler
5) Tom Hodson

Must be a lot of youngsters on here to list Hodson. Guidry is somewhere going

Any serious list would have to include Bert Jones, the first (and only) consensus All-American QB at LSU. 4th runner-up for the Heisman, the highest finishing QB in 1972 voting (and one of only 5 LSU players ever to finish in the top 5 Heisman voting). It is hard to argue with the fact that during his college career, he was the most highly regarded QB ever on the national scene of any LSU QB.
Tommy Hodson should be on the list. His record breaking career was remarkable, including the fact that he was only the 3rd QB in NCAA history to pass for more than 8,000 yards. He is the only LSU QB to be named 1st team All-SEC each of his 4 years at LSU. He was the 1st QB to be named All-SEC after Bert Jones. He also led the Tigers to two SEC championships. I think he the only QB to do that at LSU. (Unless LSU had the same QB in 1935 and 1936.)
Y.A. Tittle has to be on the list. It probably difficult to fully appreciate his career at LSU from the distance that we are now from his era of college football, but there is little doubt that he deserves to be recognized.
It would be hard not to include Jamarcus Russell. He is one of the few quarterbacks at LSU to be named first team All-SEC and the only one to be drafted no. 1 in the NFL draft. He was the 2006 Manning Award winner.
For the number 5 spot, quite probably Herb Tyler would be the one. He had a remarkable career that is, as others have noted, often overlooked.
However, there are a number of candidates to consider, including, someone no one else seems to have mentioned, Jeff Wickersham, the 1st LSU QB to pass for more than 5,000 yards, among several other records that he broke. By the end of his college career, he was the no. 3 QB in SEC history in passing yards.
Rohan Davey was the 1st LSU QB to pass for more than 3,000 yards in a single season, and the 1st QB to pass for more than 500 yards in a single game. On top of that, few QBs have ever demonstrated the determination and gutsy play that he displayed, particularly in the 2001 game against Tennessee in Tiger Stadium.
Mauck, Flynn, and Warren Rabb led the Tigers to National Championships, but even so, I am not sure that one can rank them above the first 5 listed here as one the top 5 QBs of all time at LSU.

I was right there with you until this one. Wickersham is not one of LSUs five best QBs because of his miserable TD/Int ratio. In his four years he threw for 25 touchdowns, but he threw 39 interceptions.

I tend to agree that he really isn't in the top five for the reason you mention, but still he did hold several records that merit some mention.

really? You sir are a racist. How are you going to tell people that their opinion of "YOUR" top 5 Qb's of all-time is based solely on race? The guy didn't give any kind of qualifications he asked just to post "YOUR" top 5. I have the two I saw in person help LSU win Nat'l Championships ahead of JR...guess I am a racist
might not be a racist, but you are an idiot

Wickersham was overrated. Risher.. maybe. The rest is stellar.

Appropriate that Mike Hillman is mentioned. He could run and throw equally well.
