I can chime in on this because I have been going to the games since 1966.
Some of the loudest games I have been to was when the stadium held 67,500 people.
I would put the 1970s second to the 2000s.
I consider Tiger Stadium at its very peak to be Florida 2007.
2019 was classic but most of those games were blowouts, not that I am complaining about that.
The worst?
Early 1990s. The Curley Hallman era.
But even back then people stayed unless they had a reason to leave such as that we were getting our butts kicked.
My time as a student corresponded with the Jerry Stovall era. The team had their ups and downs but we had some great times in the stadium.
I have been to many stadiums all around the country. Tiger Stadium at its best is in a class by itself.

It is just different. Overall, yes it is not as rowdy consistently. For 1-2 games? Still brings it
2021 LSU vs Alabama…that is as good as the stadium gets. Ole Miss in 2024. Florida game (because we didn’t know we both sucked) this season
Look back at some of the games we played at home…MSU/Arky/Bad Auburn aren’t moving needles

The simple correlation with your ranking is the product that's put on the field. When the team is a top 10 team like it was perennially up to 2012, you get the best fan experience.
Its so weird and narcissistic seeing old heads like act like the experience is ruined because LSU lost them as fan.

I really don’t like the dj music. Additionally some games they keep turning the lights off or dim to add the blinking lights. Don’t care for that either.

Mike the Tiger was on the field
The Golden Band from Tigerland did the amping
Players wore cutoff jerseys
Money didn't rule the roost

The Miles years were absolutely wild because damn near every big win came down to the last play, plus all the mad hatter shenanigans.
For those reasons, watching '07 from the student section will always be my favorite era.

Downward since the 80’s hit rock bottom with STTDB
It’s a ghetto shitfest now …. Dit dit dit I’m fum loooweeese eeeana…
Just disband the band and let the rap crap end it for good
If any of you had been there in the 70’s you’d be amazed at what once existed

Since you have been going to stadiums for 59 years
Can you talk a little bit about the fan game day experience at Tiger Stadium in comparison to other stadiums that you’ve been to assuming that several of the SEC rivals
What do you see needs to change or improve?

Stadium atmosphere changed with ticket price increases. LSU had more of a Blue Collar Crowd in the 80's and 90's.

I invited some old friends out of state for their first game for 07 Virginia Tech
They still get chills about it. We started out at 10 AM for game day steaks at Freds. I honestly don’t even remember where we finished after the game
What an unreal atmosphere

You can identify any era prior to the DJ appearance as being considerably better than the when the DJ started ruining the TS experience. TS is now a ghetto venue, sadly.

I agree that 2012 was where it ended. The 2012 Alabama game was one of the better atmospheres even though it was a loss. 2013 on is when the piped in music became more popular. There was still many good ones like 2019 Florida and some others but 97-2012 was such a great era.

Mid 90s-2012ish (Dinardo, Saban, most of Miles) consistently great atmosphere for most SEC games. Peak 97 Florida, 2003 Georgia, 2007 Florida. Couple bama games in that stretch, but can’t list losses.

80's before every game was on TV. I can remember when they would welcome a national tv audience over the PA and the place was just electric. To see the tigers you needed to go to the games. People stayed late and the stadium was loud as hell. IDK if anyone remembers big red, i think that was his nickname, but he had a metal megaphone and chanted tiger bait tiger bait a ton.

I think the best era's were the times before all the games started airing on TV. People were invested in going there, watching and being present. Now that all the games are on TV, I believe it's sterilized the crowd, and the gameday experience too corporate.

Big Red and Sid Crocker, we remember. 1979 vs USC prolly never repeated.
Posted on 11/17/25 at 9:09 am to Kracka
1979 s USC is the single best of all time. The crowd was a huge part of the game, not just spectators. As a student during those years it was the best. Start the day at the house, walk to the game with your date, stay the whole game, back to the house for a live band party. You never thought about missing any of that to go to a bar. During the game the best party in town was in the stadium. Your dates purse was the bar.

03 was different. 05-08 was great. 09-10 was a bit disappointing. The 2010 game against WVU was empty in the second half after the PP7 punt return to go up a few scores in the first half and we had a 6 point game and the crowd was empty.
'11-19 the stadium had pretty good highs during SEC games. 2020-2025 has been disappointing. '22 against Bama was up there but thats about it. Crowd doesn't bring the energy every game like in years/eras in the past.
03-08 was peak for me. My dad went to College in the early 80's and he even said 03 topped the 80's. When I went to games in the 90's we were very bad so it had died down a bit. 01 was fun but 03 still was different. Even in day games against Florida and UGA the stadium was nuts. Still wish '03 UGA was a night game.
