For those of you that were big fans/supporters/defenders of Miles but fell off the bandwagon after the display in Oxford on Saturday, what, if anything, will it take for you to get back on board with him?

I fall in this group. I like Les Miles as a man and I think he's a solid albeit flawed coach. what happened on Saturday has not gotten any easier for me to think about...much of what happened was simply inexcusable for even a reasonably paid high school coach, let alone a Top 5-10 paid coach in college football.

But for me, I didn't fall off because of the loss...so winning won't get me back on. What I need to see from this coaching staff is a clear indication that Les Miles is in total command of the team. I NEVER EVER EVER want to hear anything remotely like, "Well...I would have preferred it if we ran right there." Are you shitting me?!? That's stuff FANS SAY, not the guy who can over ride every call in real time!! I want to see the team look like it's managed well, in terms of getting plays in crisply without needing to call To's on multiple occasions because no one can make a decision on what to run. Finally I'd like to see LSU's offense stick with what works until it doesn't.

So for me, it's more about reassuring me that there is a (damn me for mouthing that little a-hole's words but) process in place, rather than flying by the seat of our pants every play, every game, etc simply hoping for a win.

For those that are like me and have lost faith in Miles but had had it before, what will it take?

for those of you that haven't liked the guy since he was hired, start your own damn threads. This isn't about you...

Great points. If he didn't toss and turn this week with Bo shouting at him in his dreams, then he isn't human. He has one last chance to make this HIS team, with an identity which it now lacks. Seriously, what is the identity of this offense?

Maybe that's why he always talks in terms of WANT.

Good post, I agree with your points.

i think ill join yours instead.

i have liked him as person, but had great questios about his leadership since the beginning.

i agree with you that simply winning does not solve all the ills on this team. after the ms state, ga and la tech wins that is all we heard that a ugly win is a win.

we need to see les improve as a coach if he stays. from the players that he allows on the field to the play calling and game managemnt. can he do this, i guess we will be forced to find out, if he can the i will a miles supporter, if not...

First of all, this thread needs to be stickied. Second, I fall into this group with you. You couldn't have said it any better. It's gonna take a lot for me to jump back on the Miles wagon, probably a big start next year in our opening game against UNC. And it's going to take playing a complete game within the SEC. Outside of Auburn, we haven't seen a complete game played this year on both sides of the ball. So, it probably won't be until the end of next season if I jump back on the Miles wagon. We had a great chance of ending off the season on a high note with a 10-2 record, and the chance of finishing in the top 5. However, now we will be lucky to finish in the top 15.

Great post, and I want to on the Miles bandwagon again.

I more or less fall into this category, except that I always knew that game management was an area in which Miles did not excel. See the TN game in 2005 and some others (e.g., Kentucky in 2007 - the players made some plays to get us in long FG range, but that was not pretty). So, what I want to see is (1) Miles continue to put a team on the field that gives great effort. There can be no drop off in this area. (2) I want to see legitimate improvement in crispness of getting the play in, on time, and not committing presnap penalties. (3) As we head into next season, I want to see some players really develop AND I want to feel like we are getting the most out of our players' talents.

I will have faith in him when he actually coaches to win rather than not to lose. No excuse for the following:

not having a player like trindon in motion during the wild tiger. Also, letting RS throw. There's just really no excuse. This is a young man that actively recruited kids to lsu. He enrolled early to help the team. You simply won't let him. You hired crowton. Buck stops with you.

I don't exactly fall in that category, but have some of the same sentiments.

But, to answer your question, there is unfortunately no way to recover from this damage.

When things weren't so obvious and the talent kept us from losing, all was fine.

It is now obvious to everyone outside the program and can no longer be given the benefits of doubt.

Damn strong post, GT.

I want to see some fire and passion on the sidelines like in '06 and '07 and not one dadburn delay of game penalty for starters Saturday.

I fall into this group as well. I'm not sure there is a way to get me back on board. The same mistakes have plagued LSU for 5 years. The talent bailed the coaching staff out for long enough. Now it's not happening, and it seems we're settling into our "rightful" place with Miles as coach.

It's a shame, because I think he's a great guy who really cares about his players. There hasn't been an off field incident in ages, and the ones that did happen were punished or dismissed from the team.

But I have to say that I've been wrong all this time. This is a reactive and not proactive coaching staff. And there is no indication that it will ever change.

I hope things change, but I don't have faith that they will.

Were Vince Lombardi's Packers and USC over the last 50 years the only teams to see the value in the power sweep?

For me, there is nothing he can do. The cow is out of the barn, I will never believe he has any idea of what is going on. It has always been an under current, but this was so obviously horrible that it is irredeemable. For the first time in my 57 years, I am ashamed to be a Tiger.

I agree with you, just to add, we have the talent to play with the best teams in the country and destroy the not so best, in the last 2 years, we've accomplished neither, thats coaching!

I used to go to the games all the time, but havent been in a while.Brought my son to one last year and had him watch as the band and team came down the hill to tiger stadium. Wanted to get him fired up for the game, but when i saw the coach look like mr plastic man and the team like its no big deal march into the stadium i was disapointed for me and them. It was the georgia game last year.

We haven't done this all year. It has been one of our biggest weaknesses. A player gets hot in the first half and the *poof* doesn't even sniff the ball in the 2nd half.

More like what is the identity of this team? Who are/were the 2008/2009 Tigers?

I would like to see most games start with either strong defensive performances that forces a punt early in a possession or a long LSU offensive drive that puts points on the board and indicates physical play. I just don't see that anymore, and no more extended periods of weak play on both offense and defense. It would be nice to see a consistent game plan every game that gives one the belief the staff actually studied the opponent and knows specifically where LSU has advantages and exploits that, currently that is not in evidence.

The rest is in the much maligned, and accurate, takes on game/clock management, dominate obviously less talented teams, learn to actually anticipate key times/scenarios in games and plan/execute accordingly. I may never be on the bandwagon, the man and his off kilter coaching style is not to my liking or a key to future success.
