It's total BS that the LSU BOS are hand picked by the governor. I looked at their bios and some of these people didn't even go to LSU. Do they really have the university's best interests at heart, or just purely flunkies serving political agendas? Some could probably give a shite less about LSU. Curious how much $ some of these "appointees" contributed to JBE's/Jindal's campaigns.

Why can't LSU utilize the same setup as some public state universities (Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada) where governing board members are directly ELECTED by the people, instead of being APPOINTED by the governor? I sure as hell wouldn't vote for a board member that wasn't an alum.

Dirty LA state politics and governor yes-men should not be involved in academic and athletic matters. Let LSU faithful voters determine the most qualified BOS members best fit to serve. NOT the governor. Root of the problem.

Are you sure you want a load of people who didn't finish high school electing the state's flagship university BOS?

The Board of Supervisors over all the schools in the LSU system not just LSU. The fact they didn't go to LSU doesn't really bother me.

Pick your poison between that and JBE political appointments. I'll gamble though. System is broken and time for a change. So yes. Give me my dose of uneducated voters (along with all the other voters) over governor kickbacks and him exerting control of LSU decisions.

That's true. Point taken. But I would still prefer only alums of LSU, or any other institution in the LSU system. BOS members should have affiliation in some capacity with at least one of these schools, in my opinion.

Not sure I would be in favor of the same people that voted JBE in office would vote in favor of making LSU better.

Next thing you know, SNAP cards will be allowed to buy a ticket into Tiger Stadium.

So you want the general public of Louisiana (most of whom have never set foot on LSU's campus) to vote for LSU's Board Of Supervisor's? You actually think this is an improvement?

Lol.

The same people that gave you JBE would be giving you BOS. No thanks.

It's pretty much declined to that level now.

Seriously, they can buy their ticket and stop off to get the Wine & Cheese with the same EBT/SNAP card.

As long as I trust the appointee, not sure if I care how they're appointed.

I would definitely prefer a strong LSU contingency balanced with a heterogeneous mix of people with various backgrounds and experience.

I’d love to see Silky Slim, Gravy and Tarsha on the LSU BOS.

Just make sure you help elect a different governor in the next election, somebody you feel might make better choices about the BOS, as well as a number of other things that need addressing in this state.

Which members of the current LSU Board would you like to remove/replace?

Due to staggered terms, Jindal appointees still controlled the BOS until June 1, 2018. JBE appointees have had a majority for just over three weeks.
Let's hope the new bunch can do better than the group which has presided over some of the worst governance of the system in history.

I sure as frick don't want La voters electing LSU's BOS members. Voters in this state have proven time and again they aren't very bright.

what you should really be worried about is the way the state government has got it "fixed" that only certain parts of the budget CAN GET CUT in order to balance the budget. there are way too many sacred cows. so EVERY TIME there is a budget crunch the legislature is limited in what they can do. guess what the largest area that they can cut is; EDUCATION.

the yo-yo's in the legislature protect their "pet departments" and it is actually against state law to cut their budget. therefore when the inevitable crunch arrives they claim they have to follow the law (enacted by them of course) and cut where they can. so LSU gets cut.

you claim that changing the BOS is the solution? you are ignorant of the way the state works. instead of bashing those at the university that have to survive budget chops you should be electing legislators that will change the way the state is funded. and you claim that electing the BOS is an improvement? hah! the same voters that allow the legislature to run a poor ship would do better by electing the BOS?

YOU and the other voters are the problem. until you clean up the governing body you have no room to cast stones about the group (BOS) that has no ability to change the way the state values education (or I should say does NOT value education).

I have been saying for years that too many members of the BOS were outsiders who did not have sufficient connections to LSU, and did not appreciate the importance of athletics. However, I don't want the answer to be a popular election. There is no telling who we would get then. Look around at some of your elected officials. This would be a nightmare for LSU.
