take a look at his current recruiting class next year

In his defense there are still lingering punishments to be handed out for the program. I believe they will be minimal because they fired Will Wade but it’s still not a good look to recruits.

The best thing that could happen for the program is just for everything to just be handed out good or bad so that we can move forward with recruits knowing what the future holds.

That is not true. Zero starters returned to the basketball team.

LSU Men’s Basketball is not even close to on-par with LSU Football. Football is recognized as a top program.

Basketball this year is all about establishing a perception of integrity.

MM isn't going anywhere for at least 5 years

this is just not true. definitely understand the circumstances that have led us to where the team is now. but if he can’t prove that he can both recruit and coach at a high level, i fully expect Woody to go after a more proven coach, as he has done in football, baseball, and women’s basketball.

MM is the outlier in his hires right now, and the mess that was here before him is not unrelated to that. once WWs problems are put in the past and if MM hasn’t shown enough, Woody’s going big game hunting again

Looking at 247, we are ranked 9th.
We have 2 players: Corey Chest ranked #88 overall and Mike Williams ranked #157 overall.

For context, Tennessee is 2nd with the 45, 102, 142 best players.
Ole Miss (3rd) has the 84, 92, 165 best players.
Missouri (4th) has the 85, 116, 137 best players.
Alabama (5th) has the 104, 107, 177 best players.

Yeah, I wouldn't lose my mind over the rankings. This isn't football were just about everyone signs roughly teh same amount of players each year. In basketball some teams sign 5 or 6. Some might sign only 1 or 2.

For instance, Auburn is currently ranked 62nd. Purdue, the current #3 team in the nation, is ranked 69th. Arizona is ranked 70th. Gonzaga is 41st.

I think a lot of the fan frustration comes from erroneously applying a "football mindset" to basketball. That is by treating any and ever loss as apocalyptic, to using recruiting rankings as a definitive measure of immediate on court success. Houston is #1 right now. They had the 44th ranked recruiting class coming into this season. Purdue is #3. They had the 45th best class.

That's not to say recruiting isn't important. It ABSOLUTELY is. But I wouldn't freak out just yet. The reason LSU only has 2 guys signed right now is because they probably are unsure as to how my scholarships they will have open for next season.

I'll give him 2 years to show us something. Shouldn't be as hard as in the past with the transfer portal.

I’m neutral about McMahon at this point but it literally took Bruce pearl five years to get auburn off the ground, with a new arena at that lmao

Lazy post and frankly McMahon might not be the guy, but it doesn’t make all of these terrible takes less fricking dumb judging a guy who inherited troubled program with shite facilities

Pearl is a salesman. He can paint you a vision and have you believe it with his passion and his attitude. He is fiery. I think McMahon's personality is doing him no favors here.

Who would compare MM to BK, Mulkey or even Jay Johnson. Criticizing a mid tier coach for not bringing top tier talent at the last minute to a program that was gutted and had the cloud of sanctions hanging over it?

Exactly. It's going to take a little longer.

I think ESPN is a little higher on both. But I don't think it matters. We've seen highly rated players come in and do nothing. More important is getting an SEC-quality point guard or two from the portal, right?

People that are upset with Mcmahon right now have no concept of reality. This was never going to be a successful season with what he inherited. We're lucky we've won the amount of games that we won.

This is all true enough, but what's alarming to fans of LSU basketball is that the team has gotten progressively worse each game since the Arkansas upset. Since the close loss at Kentucky, the team has become an increasingly embarrassing problem with seemingly no chance to change its trajectory.

Yeah, true. But competition has gotten better, and they have more film on the team available now.

This is where I was hoping Mwani would really be able to contribute.

Yours (and others) citing of Pearl as a comparison is flawed. Pear did not have the ability to bring in immediately eligible transfers (outside of grad transfers) in the first 5 years (actually more) of his Auburn tenure. That is a complete game changer when it comes to roster building and can significantly reduce the amount of time to "rebuild" a roster. With transfers a coach can literally rebuild a roster in one season. Ask Kansas St's first year HC...who only returned 2 players from last year's roster (less than LSU!)

There’s not ZERO chance, but it’d have to be an extinction-level event like

* having an affair with a player
* other sexual harassment shenanigans that lead to a Title IX investigation
* Cheating on your cancer-stricken wife with a hottie you found off of Instagram
* get caught on a wiretap flagrantly violating recruiting rules.

Lucky for us, none of that type of stuff ever happens at THE Louisiana State University.

In basketball we brought in a mid-tier not very well-known coach that was really an unknown at this level.

Remind me again who the candidates were that had a proven track record of building a program from the ashes.

I believe that by the 24,25 season MM will have recruited and developed enough talent to get an invitation to the dance! Hey, I'm an optimist and I love the Tigers
