2 SEC losses is the standard. We should never have more than 2 losses in any season. A 2 loss SEC season gets you in a 12 team playoff most years. Anything more than 2 SEC losses should be considered a failure.

The real issue besides those already said is the nature of Week 1 games in the current transfer portal era
Your own team will be breaking in new transfers who, even if talented, are playing with new teammates, coaches and a new scheme.
And the team you are facing you will have no game tape on because they could have a transfer QB and transfers at several key positions you can’t truly prepare for.
With parity and 1/3rd of your roster new every year, teams need easy ramp up games to work kinks out. You can see it play out this year and it’s only going to get worse going forward.
Scheduling an easy cupcake week 1 and a power 5 team week 2 (doesn’t have to be a premiere team since replay an SEC schedule) is the way to go IMO

quote:Well the issue is we don’t get to make those schools’ scheduling decisions for them. Those aren’t lower G5 or FCS teams okay with padding their OOC schedules with auto-losses for $1 million. At minimum they’d demand a home and home (or another sterile boring neutral site game) that would look silly for us to agree to when we’d get more money and equal wins with Sun Belt teams
Why don't we play a team like Virginia or TCU instead?

The neutral site shite needs to stop now.
They do the big neutral site thing for a huge payday. That’s why they do it.

Wait till you see next year where we finish with 4 SEC games on the road

We played ucla as well this year. And for everyone disagreeing with this thought, why don’t you ask Florida fans what they think about difficult schedules. They went 7-5 and are an afterthought partly because they faced murderer’s row…if they play Missouri’s schedule they are probably 10-2 or 9-3 and a borderline playoff team. If you ask Florida fans if they would rather have played Texas, Miami, etc and gotten the excitement of those big games this year or played weaker opponents during the season and made the playoffs, what option do you think they take?

That's kind of out of LSUs hands. SEC office sets the SEC schedule. LSU just fills in the gaps

You're a pussy. The USC game didn't matter and had no impact to our playoff chances

We beat two of the 3 SEC schools that have an outside shot of making the playoffs. If we played GA State the first game, LSU would be ranked about 12-13 right now.

I'm not reading all that, but I am against the 1st big game schedule too. Buuuuut, this day in age, we almost need to play stiff competition week in and week out for the committee to stay on our side when playoffs come around. Strength of schedule is a huge deal.
Now I think that if Power 5 teams are playing each other Week 1, then you cannot schedule a "Week 0" cupcake game. That should be a rule written somewhere word for word lol.

Maybe it’s about making money & not a playoff resume
I assume that was the theory when these games were scheduled. But I think making the playoff would also generate money.

Yes ideally you would do both

I have no issue with playing the likes of USC, just do it in week 2.
Posted on 12/4/24 at 1:36 pm to Tiger4travel
You do realize that ultimately the SEC will go to a 9-game conference schedule that requires 1 premier OOC game per season? 10 strong/ conference games and 2 cupcakes.
We going forward, not backward, baw.

How bad of a team are some of yall wanting us to play. USC went 6-6

Even with a cupcake instead of USCw, we weren't making the playoffs.

I agree it’s heading more towards an nfl type model like I said in my post. I’m all for everyone playing more conference games. However, why hurt your own chances under the current landscape?
