re: How hot is Jay Johnson’s seat?
Posted by Tiger4travel on 5/23/26 at 8:27 am to ThadCastle2010
It’s cold for sure but as I’ve posted before it’s crazy how fine line is between “best coach and baseball” and “hot seat coach.” Had they lost that regional last year to Little Rock, it absolutely would be hot. That would be 1 of 5 years making it to a super. That’s how sports go though. Thin margins
re: Is Jay Johnson’s sec record 45-40?

You don’t even have this years record right. You are correcting ppl on his record when you get this years sec record wrong???? Cmon

The goal this year is just to win a weak division. I expect 9-8 or something like that. Making the playoffs would be a success at this stage. If our draft picks this year pan out, we have positioned ourselves nicely to become actual contenders the following year. One more good draft and offseason and we go from happy just to make the playoffs to threats to do actual damage. Our timeline to win a Super Bowl was always 4 years when Moore started if we made all the right moves. We are making all the right moves so far and I think are a year ahead of schedule.

What does him being there for a while have to do with his .595 record? You make zero sense. The two facts are independent. Also if you go with that argument Johnson didn’t win his first nc until his 8th season as head coach ,which is two years later than Vitello. Keep the logic up!

I started by saying he was very good and tried to show how the narrative can change based on 1-2 games. Obviously I think he’s good just saying someone like Vitello was better in my opinion. Also, 125-85 is a good bit better than 66-56. And again you have to compare the programs they did this at. Most ppl on here love Will Wade (as do I) and his biggest accomplishment was getting to the sweet 16 with lsu basketball. That was considered great because it’s LSU basketball. His resume would be a shitty one at Kentucky or Duke. You have to take programs into consideration. Same thing applies to LSU and Tenn baseball. Some of you can’t comprehend this simple truth.

You mean a program that won 4 NCs and has been to 19 cws and is objectively a top 10-15 program in the sport? Oh yeah that’s the same as a perennial conference bottom feeder.

Ppl forget how bad the Tenn program was without him. It’s not the same level as LSU. Also it takes some luck to win it all. You lose 2 games and you are out which means the best team doesn’t always win. Johnson’s a terrific tourney coach but is that a repeatable thing idk. What is more controllable is being a consistent team every year.

The two Ncs jay has proves he’s a top tier coach yes I agree there. I’m saying the next few years will validate if he is “the best.” I think there are about 5-7 guys who are very good. Many 9f these guys would have a ton of success at LSU. And as far as Vitello. He has a .590 career sec record vs .540 sec record for Johnson and that’s taking into consideration his first year where he went 12-18 to build up a completely shite program. Comparing Tenn baseball to lsu baseball is like comparing Kentucky basketball to lsu basketball which makes what Vitello did even more impressive. Winning it all is obviously hard to do and Jay has done it twice. But it also takes a little luck to win it all. He has yet to prove he can build consistent program year in and year out at LSU. I’d expect the “best coach” to be more consistent. I think you are the one who bases his judgement on feelings and biases.

Did smoke have a team fail to reach the tournament? I’m just asking I can’t recall.

Jay Johnson is a good coach. That being said, its crazy how the narrative shifts based one or two games here or there(I guess that’s sports in general though) Had we had lost to Little Rock last year ( a win certainly didn’t seem like a sure thing at all at the time), ppl would be calling for Johnson to be fired with the results this year. That would likely be 4/5 years to not make it past a regional and a .540 sec win record in his career at LSU. Credit where due….he is a hell of a tournament coach and we won the whole thing…hard to argue with 2-3 national titles. That being said it shows how quickly the narrative can change. Change that result alone and ppl would want him fired and instead LSU fans think he’s by far the best in baseball. I think he’s a good coach but not the best in the game. I thought Vitello was a better coach for instance when he was still in the sec. These next few years will validate where he stands.. should be fun.

Both of these teams would have lost to Osu and uga if not for the massive bye for uga and Osu imo
re: Teams that didn’t belong in the CFP

I have no issue with Texas Tech making the playoffs. They were overrated and seeded too well by the committee but I don’t have an issue with that like I do having both Tulane and JMU being in. Don’t overreact to one game where rust is a factor. I think the bye week is a huge disadvantage and came into play as well. If you want to play this game of shitting on teams, maybe shite on lsu. tech beat UH by 24 pts. What did UH do in their bowl game?? Oh yeah they beat us. But ppl want to make excuses for us and say we had backups in. I don’t get the need to shite on every team that loses. Only 1 team wins it all. Doesn’t mean every single other team sucks. The sec hasn’t looked great this postseason if we are honest. Maybe stop shitting on everyone.

Okay moron. Can’t have an intelligent conversation about it without it becoming a jab at LSU?

I hate osu I hope they lose. I’m an lsu fan. I just am calling it like I see it

I really doesn’t matter how it plays out. The point is Osu started out slowly because they are rusty. They could win and is still feel that way

Unfair advantage to the underdogs is what I meant and Osu losing is proving the point. Osu prob easily wins if this game is played a month ago imo
Do away with bye week
Posted by Tiger4travel on 12/31/25 at 7:25 pm
It’s pretty obvious that the bye week is causing an unfair advantage to the worse seeded teams based on this start tonight and last years results. They need to revamp the entire system. It’s not like the nfl where the bye team played two weeks ago. These teams haven’t played in over a month. It needs to be addressed. Total joke.

I don’t agree. I hate it as well as OP suggests. It’s a slippery slope. At what point do we see opt outs mid season when playoffs are done? The combine is months away. The fact that this is common place is just another example of how we continue to decline as a society imo. More about me than we no playing for your team no honoring your commitments etc.
