Ole Miss is an actual historic rival. Stupid trophy/title aside.

Send A&M back to the Big 12 as far as I’m concerned.

Correct. Ross Bjork spoke at an A&M booster event and when the topic came up said LSU and Texas WILL be 2 of A&Ms if a 9 game format. And that if an 8, it would be LSU over Texas. So LSU/A&M is happening.

I was going to post the exact same thing: if you are asking me what I *want* I’ll tell you the Auburn, Florida and a Bama games are the most exciting games every year - way better than bowl games most of the time.

But, if you are asking me what I think will happen we will get a Texas school, a Miss school and Florida. So, the A&M, Ole Miss Florida crowd likely has it right.

I really don’t think we’re getting Arkansas whom already has real rivalries with UT, A&M and could get ole Miss / Missouri.

Iif you take Florida and Bama away from us I hope we get Texas every year. Want to develop football and baseball rivalries with them.

If you beat a good/great team, it helps your resume'. It's easy to say you're undefeated when you beat up on a bunch of weaker teams but when you get to a team that has equal talent, and is a conference foe and you beat them, it matters.

Again, this is just what I'd like, like the OP asked. I'd rather LSU not beat up on, say, Vanderbilt and go,"Look, another SEC win." And while it is exactly that, Vanderbilt does not equal Alabama. Just using Vanderbilt as an example. No disrespect to them.

Thank you. I don’t understand why everyone wants the Ags as a permanent opponent. It’s not a fun away game and when they come to visit they bring a bunch of weirdos to campus. Not to mention the A&M game always kinda sucks it’s like playing Arkansas. I want Bama, Ole Miss and either UF/AU
Bama, Ole Miss, UF for the win!

Thanks for sharing insight that makes sense. I never understood why anyone would want to keep that game over UF.

It may work for you, but unfortunately, not so much for the majority of the rest of the fan base.

Playing a strong schedule is even more important with the coming expanded playoff. Resume doesn't matter as much at that point. You could lose a game or even 2 and still get in. What matters more is being able to win it once you're in. The stronger the schedule, the better.

With Aggy no longer playing Texas, it made some sense that LSU/A&M could develop overtime into that years end heated rivalry
Why wouldn't they resume playing each other once they are in the same conference?

There is no way LSU-A&M would approach the rivalry than UTexas-A&M already is.

I hate this move of allowing Texas and Oklahoma in, for the sole reason that I hate how it's going to ruin a lot of the traditional yearly rivalries, and turn them into a rotating mess.

But I want to keep the Bama matchup above all others. I don't care how much the media wants to tell us how awesome the iron bowl is, or what a great rivalry Tennessee and Alabama supposedly is, even though that game is usually awful. There is no game in the SEC that is more exciting, and generates more national fan interest, than LSU and Alabama when both teams are good. You don't get a matchup with more combined NFL talent, anywhere else.

But sadly, I don't think it'll matter. We'll get Ole Miss, MSU and probably A&M or Texas. I'd like Texas to be one of the three permanents, actually. But I don't want MSU over Bama or even Auburn. Think about all the close games LSU and Auburn have played, and we probably won't have that matchup anymore, at least not yearly.

I'm tired of this endless expansion, for the sake of money, at the expense of anything that fans actually care about.

Somebody posted their guesses over on the SEC Rant, and I feel like that pretty much nailed it:

Florida, Ole Miss, A&M. I would be surprised if it's anyone else.

Ole Miss, FU, and Auburn.

Those have given us the best games over the years.

This is where LSU suffers for not being anybody’s top rival. You also have to consider that the SEC is going to maximize opportunities for a 12 team playoff. I think it will end up like this:

LSU, Ole Miss, State, A&M
OU, Mizzou, Arkansas, Texas
Bama, Auburn, Vandy, Tennessee
UGA, UF, USC, Kentucky

Basically, every “pod” has a traditional marquis matchup except for the LSU pod and the padding is spread around evenly after that.

Equal rotation is my first pick but if I had to choose permanents, I’d choose ‘greatest chance of winning against’ opponents. I didn’t look up records but probably:

Vanderbilt
Mississippi State
Kentucky

I would rather play our tradition rivals than A&M. I also would rather play Texas every year over A&M.

But I say:

Ole Miss
Florida
Alabama
