That's not a bad comment. Joe Montana didn't. Drew Brees doesn't. Big deal; he has virtually everything else.

Who has elite arm strenth? Just for the sake argument.
The ABSOLUTE strongest arm in football is Cardale Jones. He's playing in the XFL

Umm...he doesn't. But accuracy>>>arm strength

He didn't say "he doesn't have elite arm strength"

He said "arm" which includes accuracy and frankly he's wrong on both counts, we saw Joey sling dimes 60, 70 yards down field, sometimes on the run, that's fricking elite no matter how you shake it

and it's arguably true.

It’s not “arguably” true; it IS true. Anyone who thinks Burrow has an elite arm, by NFL standards, is a fool. It’s a little below average. His accuracy is good, not great. What makes Joe great is his evasiveness in the pocket and his decision making. His arm is good enough to make him deadly when combined with those elite traits. Burrow’s skill set - shortcomings and strengths - are about the same as Joe Montana’s and differs from Brees only in height (and Brees was more accurate).

Phil Simms, as usual, is full of shite.

Joe broke almost every meaningful QB record in college football. And he did it against perhaps the toughest schedule ever played by a National Championship team.

Simms is a career 55% passer. Don't care what that guy imagines to constitute an "elite" QB.

"The proof is in the pudding." Joe is the real deal. Simms and his kid are Jelly.

When someone says "elite arm", "arm strength" is implied

Link? 70yd completions does not mean 70yd throws

Look man its ok to say Joey B doesn't have an ultra strong arm because it's true. That doesn't mean he's not a great QB

You clearly didn't listen because he pretty much loves everything about Burrow.

Football IQ and accuracy are necessary and most important to be a great NFL QB.

Turnovers (interceptions) lose games in the NFL.

Incomplete passes to open WR on third down is close to being a turnover.

The best QBs are so accurate that they complete passes to WRs that are covered.

That’s what Joe Burrow can do.

It's true when you thinkn in NFL terms. Joe Montana, Drew Brees, and Steve Young didn't either. Joe will have a good career if he keeps reading defenses the way he did this year.

What?

I don't care how Simms sugar coats it. Simms clearly said that Joe, "doesn't have an elite arm."

Phil is stuck in the pro-set, under center, three-five-seven step drop-back days.

Burrow's skillset is the Gold Standard in today's up-tempo Spread/RPO offense. An "elite QB" skillset in 2020 is very different from an "elite QB" skillset in 1980.

Here are the qbs I can recall that were considered to have elite arm strength when they were drafted:

Bradshaw

Elway (won at the twilight of his career - arm strength had deteriorated)

Favre

I might have missed one or two but it's pretty far down the list of super bowl winning attributes.

It’s true, but it is strong enough to be successful.

No. Not Unitas. Pittsburgh HC Walt Kiesling cut Unitas in 1955 because he, "was too dumb and didn't have a pro arm".

Unitas almost always threw with touch. Almost never threw bullets.

its kinda like saying Jordan couldn't shoot 3's. true, but more or less irrelevant. Jordan might not hit that 3 at the buzzer, but he was up by 20 at that point so it didnt really matter.

Thats Burrow. He has an arm like Montana and Brady, he makes every pass he needs to.

like him or not, Sunshine has a fukking arm like the Winter Soldier, and because of that, and his height, he can throw a 40 yard pass like others throw a 10, he can drive the ball down the field, it will start at 7 feet high and hit the WR at 5 feet.

OR... it'll sail over the WRs head and rocket into the stands.

when TL does the first one its impressive as hell, no shame in admitting that.

Burrow wont do either of those. He'll just hit the guy in stride some other way, or find the WR that doesn't need that bullet pass, because there's no one way to do this.

people fall in love with Sunshine because he really can make throws that others, including good NFL QBs, simply cannot, but so can guys in trick shot videos on youtube. if all you needed was a golden arm JaMarcus would be in the Hall.

Arm strength is among the last things scouts look for in a NFL QB. Sure you have to have a certain level of arm strength but if you play at this level and have this success you are plenty strong enough for the NFL.

How the frick do you people actually know what they mean when talking arm strength?

I’ve watched Joe Burrow throw 40 plus scrambling left and throwing back across the field and hit receivers in stride multiple times.

That you stupid frick is arm strength. Not 70 yards standing in the pocket. That is a fricking Hail Mary.

If “elite” is strictly distance than this league is full of second string elite quarterbacks.
