5. MIKE DENBROCK, LSU TIGERS

Denbrock worked with Luke Fickell in Cincinnati from 2018 to 2021, and in his final year there, the Bearcats ranked fifth in the nation in positive EPA rate (49.6%) on their way to the Group of Five’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

Denbrock rejoined head coach Brian Kelly at LSU this past season, and the Tigers won the SEC West on the back of his incredibly efficient offense that generated positive expected points added on 50.9% of its plays, the eighth-best mark in the country.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels had his best year yet as a passer, leading the nation's quarterbacks in turnover-worthy play rate (0.9%).

How is the rant feeling about Mike now? The general sentiment around him last year were very up and down, I feel. I generally feel fine about him and can acknowledge it was a process to learn what the full scope of what he had with Daniels. Full offseason to work with JD and to work the offense around him, big things?

I think he’s a good coach who actually tries to coach our players up and improve throughout the season, which is more than we can say for 90% of our OC’s since 2007. I think he works well with what BK is trying to build and I think he can scheme against elite DC’s which is, again, something we’ve lacked in the past

He was handcuffed a bit in his playcalling by Jayden’s inconsistent passing. He got more creative towards the end of the season. I’d like to see more of that. At times we were basically running the Lamar Jackson Ravens package.

He impressed me in the bowl game with those trick plays. Definitely seemed the more he got to know the players, the better the scheme minus Boutte. Lol we know what happened there.

Mike needs to get Jayden to trust his WR's to go and get those 50/50 balls and push the ball downfield for me.

Lol at pff having Rees as top 10. I don’t see that in his ND numbers. Is he just 10
Because bama hired him?

Will be interesting to see how much the philosophy changes after Jayden is gone and Nuss has the keys.

He had some wtf games. I wasn’t thrilled with his hire, I wanted a younger more dynamic hire but he was good last year.

lulz

Denbrock at 5

Tommy Rees at 10. Only because he is now at Bama. ND was 60th in the nation in ypg, against their weak arse schedule last year. Rees is not a Top 10 OC

And Denbrock sure as hell isnt Top 5

The Rant is consistently more down on our guys than others.

PFF is constantly a joke with how they rank or grade anything.

This. He actually calls plays according to the talent he has on the field. If Jayden can open it up all year like he did at times last year, this season is going to be absolutely fun to watch.

I’ve always thought he was top 5 from last year, went back and looked at what he wanted to do. His usage of the TE, well known, same with Kelly. They both like a 11, 12 or 13 personal package. Looking for mismatches. Went you have TE’s in a formation, you can do so much more. No huddle, run plays, the defense can’t substitute the way they want. Denbrock likes some NFL stuff.
We have two of the better coordinator s in college football, on offense and defense.

I think he is a good coach whose play calling was slightly handicapped by the lack of a full off-season with Jayden Daniels. The best OC's can scheme and call to the strength of the quarterback and I fully expect the offense to build on last years success. Looking forward to seeing Jayden Daniels development with a full offseason with BK, Denbrock, and Sloan.
