I mean, I get it...it sucks, but it sounds like Entergy had pretty good reasons for why they couldn't place the pole in other locations.

they could reroute water lines to put that in a better spot.

I wonder if Entergy didn't tell them about it for fears of them trying to get a court order to stop the installation. Entergy would have absolutely won any kind ruling, but it may have caused delays.

100% chance Doug and Co got some bullshite flyer or email letting them know there would be "utility work" in their area. And some BS snippet about accessing their easement.

Not a snowball's chance anyone saw those plans outside of Entergy for the shite they put up.

I seriously doubt it. Their reason was probably it was slightly more convenient for them and they could not care less about that guy

Now Entergy is upgrading the infrastructure and ppl are still bitching.

Get fricked Doug. I'd rather have electricity after a hurricane than worry about your view.

I guarantee they could've found another way to handle the placement of this pole. They did the bare minimum assessment and said "welp, that's where it goes I guess" and didn't think to talk to this homeowner at all - or intentionally didn't tell him and did it quickly while he was away.

You can upgrade infrastructure without doing shite like this. Most of the country is able to do it.

I'd be curious if anything can be done under Title II of the ADA for accessibility because they put that thing right in the middle of the sidewalk. I know major constructions have to take into consideration bringing curb ramps and sidewalks up to ADA code when they do work.

Clever.

ADA is the bane of my existence sometimes at work. My clients buy a business and we find out shite like the water fountain is 4 inches too high or bathroom is slightly below space requirements or something and it delays everything.

But it does have to be taken care of. No real way around it in most cases.

Where was this guy? Did he miss them pouring the giant base for it?

Photos look like they planted the pole in a limestone gravel base. I'd guess they dug a hole, dropped the pole, and backfilled with the gravel.

Drill hole, drop pole, fill with gravel

Good call. Doug needs to contact one of those predatory ADA lawyers that get businesses for violations. Entergy would likely ball up the paper and throw it in the trash, bu it's worth a shot.

It's a very busy sidewalk, if I'm thinking this of this spot correctly.

I’m calling BS. There is no way dude just left for work one day and Entergy showed up while he was gone and got that entire pole installed. Hell it takes them 2 hours to change a damn lightbulb. That’s not going up in a day.

It most likely wasn't actually Entergy doing the work. Probably a company called Quanta who does line work under many different names. They very much can shite and git when it comes to installing or repairing power lines. That's all they do.

If you look on Google maps, you can clearly see his water meter on the left side of the yard.

I drive that route most every day. Check out Google Maps street view for 1316 Perkins Road. That pole was moved vs just being replaced.

Image is from last Fall and shows the pole that was replaced being on the line between the vets office next door. I'd be pissed too.

Yeah I’d be pissed as well, but I imagine not much wiggle room with these things in a crowded area. They don’t want to F with the water, gas, or sewer lines. And I don’t think they can just put them at totally random intervals. Surely there’s a small window to shift one way or another but not however far they feel like…be curious to know for sure.

Sounds like this is all part of the grid hardening work Entergy customers are all paying for. The big metal utility poles are popping up everywhere. There’s been some on Lee for a long time and I don’t even notice them. Now coming to an easement near you.

Ain’t shite he will be able to do about it.

That’s where the government needed it, that’s where it will stay.

The homeowners would be best off trying to hide the pole by planting some shrubberies around it.

Yup, just drill some holes in the steel pole and attach a couple of Shepard's hooks and hang some ferns on there for better aesthetics.
