How so? Just because he's a nice guy doesn't mean he shouldn't have gone a few years ago.
A few years ago LSU was a year removed from playing for a national title. Hell even saying LSU played for a national title a few years ago is acceptable. But thanks for proving my point even further.

I’ll add to the unrealistic expectations issue. The current format makes it exponentially more difficult to win a championship. To top it off, when they changed the park in Omaha and made the bat changes, it completely changed the way he had to recruit. He adapt to that pretty well. He’s been slower to adapt back to the recent bat changes. And I think he acknowledged this in the press conference.

No. He started recruiting all little guys that could run...except we didn’t steal bases except for the one year Cannizzaro was here. Paul would rather unsuccessfully bunt and call hit and runs. Paul had Bregman trying to beat the ball into the ground.
We went back and made a big run in Omaha after the ball change and home runs were a big part of it. Paul was not a good small ball coach. He let his gut make decisions and the percentages were bad.

Thanks for the Natty in 2009! Wish him all the best but it was time for a chance 3 years ago.

I’m sure he still has the ability to see how great a coach is
But damn near every coach has their expiration date it was just his time

I wonder how much of the decision was made by Paul in consultation with his family & advisors or how strongly was he "encouraged" to retire by the LSU administration & big dollar supporters?

He needed to go. Glad he didn't drag it out further.

Frick. As a Bammer, I’m going to miss PM in the SEC. Watched the entire PC. He was as good as you can ask for. But probably time for a change, only because of where he was coaching.

What in the hell is this? We have one of the absolute worst fan bases in the country when it comes to expectations. WE PLAYED FOR A TITLE IN 2017 YOU IMBECILE.

it was time to go, and he made the right choice. a graceful exit at the end of along and successful career. I am grateful for his coaching, especially 2009, but him going now is the right move. Time for new blood. Thanks to coach Paul

I didn't have a strong feeling he would step down at the end of the year, when the season started. But his demeanor during the struggles of this team kind of made me wonder if this wouldn't be his last year. Then came the rumors that he was going to retire. I can't say I believed or disbelieved them. You never know with LSU.
I appreciate the good work that he did do here. It was, however, clearly time for a change, and I'm glad he didn't drag it out like Miles did. That was ugly, and no one wanted to repeat that episode.

Who was the one? He said 132 of 133 signed professionally.

Makes me a little emotional. He was a great coach and deserves to be remembered fondly. Definitely ready for the next chapter, but glad to have had Paul in the LSU dugout.
CLM should have been asked to resign after the aTm game. Alleva was a puss, though it may not have completely been his decision.
adios CPM.

Yep, glad this was a clean break unlike CLM. It was time for Paul to go but he gave us a lot of great memories.
