Putting to much emphasis one game causes let downs after and teams to play tight. We have witnessed that for the past 8 years.
Not under Orgeron, we haven’t. Those letdowns after Bama stopped when Les exited the program.

I kind of hate making the whole season about Alabama. Of course we have to beat them.... but that's the goal in every game. Alabama isn't any different, just more difficult.
I'm fully convinced that part of this dumbass losing streak is mental. The Tigers are just so brain f'd over losing to Alabama that they come out and play tense and lay an egg. So in that regard, I dont like Coach O setting the early theme for the season as "...but Alabama". When you weight your season entirely on the outcome of 1 game, the pressure of the entire season is on that game.
With that in mind, I think the atmosphere surrounding the game has hurt us too. Its THE game. The 2 week delay, the CBS primetime game. Just too much hype surrounding it. I'd love for it to be a day game without a bye week before. Just show up and play football.

Seems like the only positive about the bye week before Alabama would be the extra rest and time to heal, but I agree with y’all.. might be time to change it up a little

So you’d much rather play Bama after they’ve had twice as long as you have to heal, rest and prepare?
(Because whether or not LSU takes a bye week, Bama will)

Stop fricking scheduling the off week before that game and prepare like any other game and maybe Bama won’t live in LSU’s heads and they might play competitively.
Maybe, but I think LSU could have no time off before Bama or 3 weeks off and it won't matter either way unless LSU shows Bama new looks on offense that they've never seen from LSU.
Saban is great because of his preperation for what he has seen. The last time LSU beat Bama was because we went to the option with JJ when he wasn't ready for it. And in 2010 we played them tough and beat them, but it was a fake to Deangelo Peterson that Bama hadn't seen before that was a huge playlate in the game that got us down inside the Bama 5.

Just bone stupid. Bama also schedules a bye before the LSU game every year. Doesn't seem to hurt them.

Too much emphasis on Bama. Of course the game is important but that all or nothing mindset just makes us play tight.
This...
If there was one thing I don’t like about CEO is spewing unnecessary stuff like this... What CEO needs to do first and foremost is beat Ga. Southern on 8/31...
If we lose our only regular season game to Bama is the season a failure if we get another shot at them in the playoffs? Or what happens if we beat Bama but get upset by Vanderbilt and/or Ole Piss? Is the season a success because we still beat Bama?
This is the classic... Focus on one game at a time and that one game is the next game.

It's so reflective of Orgeron.
Last year, leading up to the Alabama game, he said they couldn't make the game bigger than life, where the players couldn't handle it. Not 30 seconds later, he said they understand how big the game is to the state of Louisiana, and that it was THE game.
You can't stick a microphone in his face at any time of the year without him mentioning Alabama. How often do you think Nick Saban mentions LSU other than the week they play? None.
Orgeron is so obsessed with Alabama, even publically, he makes his team obsessed and they play tight. Forget the open date and the time of the year or primetime telecast. They're insignificant. Bama has no problem with those things because they don't have a coach who obsesses over one game and strangles his team with that pressure. That's a huge difference.
Orgeron needs to shut his big, goofy mouth and never utter "Alabama" until the week of the game, but he's too stupid to understand that. It ain't the open date or primetime that ratchet up the pressure. It's goofy Orgeron. He's just not smart enough to realize it.
By the way, Miles succumbed to the same disease in his latter years to an extent, but had LSU poised to win several times. Orgeron has been embarrassing. Will be this year, too.

And Saban knows that most years he has to beat LSU, he just doesn't mention it every single day because they have 12 games to play, not one. Maybe Orgeron should mention Florida and Texas A&M as teams they need to beat. Wouldn't have changed anything by beating Bama and losing to those two.

The issue is not with acknowledging that we have to beat bama. That is undoubtedly the case.
The issue is in recognizing how to beat them.
We will beat Bama when :
1. The talent is relatively similar on both sides (I think it is close enough at this point but obviously still favors bama)
2. The team and coaches truly believe they are good enough to beat Bama without a “special” performance.
3. The team and coaches play loose enough to get the most out of their ability.
4. The leaders on the team and coaches hold it together late to secure the win against a great opponent.
I think those pieces are in place currently. It’s a question of belief, trust, and execution under pressure. And like any game, an element of luck.
Hopefully this is the year.
Geaux tigers!

quote:Not quite. Alabama on a regular 1 week schedule is probably more beatable.
Exactly. Both teams have the week before off.
The advantage is that one side has been superior in scouting and preparation. If both sides had played the week before, this still would have been the case.
I think this goes back to, what, 2002? That was the year LSU opened up with Virginia Tech, and Beamer pulled some sneaky shite and later scheduled a cupcake beforehand to work the opening week kinks out. LSU/Saban lost a game they likely would have won later in the season, and Saban was steaming mad about it.
Ever since, I think if he has extra time to prepare, he fixates on annihilating the opponent. "Never again", etc.
If we both had games the week before, I think we win one or two of those over the streak.

The matchup has become a major embarrassment for us, a national embarrassment. I agree with other posters that I'd rather O not talk about it, and once it does get to game week, I'd prefer he sort of downplay it.

I hope he keeps the same energy in November

The problem is not him focusing on Alabama like it's the end of the world if we don't win. It's that he doesn't approach all games the same way.

This is hogwash.... The talent has always been there. It’s a fact of how LSU has been using it.
You may say Bama’s had the number one recruiting class for a million years in a row but LSU has finished in the top 10 and in the top 5 in most of those years... And btw Clemson didn’t have the number one recruiting class either during that span.

Not sure what all this means but I’ll add my two cents here....
The bottom line is we’ve been getting our asses out coached for the past 8 years simple as that! Remember the game is more mental than physical and that’s where Satan is KING...
...Also If CNS was to switch teams and came to LSU right now CNS would have a Natty by the end of this year or no later than next...

It’s been a tradition. LSU and Alabama both ask off a week to prepare for each other.
