I refuse to comment any further on this Game 1 LSU Pitcher issue.
I know that the issue will work itself out.

I guess Jay didn’t do the research on Oregon State and decided to do a ton of it on to Tulane to convince himself he had to pitch Skenes? Still really baffled by all this today
My thoughts as well.
Ty needs to pitch his best tonight.

During the regular season we experienced teams pitched their second or third arm against Skenes so they would not lose their best arm against Skenes.
And we never countered that by moving Skenes to Game 2. The best way to win a series is to win Game 1. Maybe he’s thinking it’s not about the opponents, it’s about us. And we give the ball to Skenes to take the bump on Game 1.

Should have saved skenes for their arse I could have gone out there, pitched and beaten 40 loss Tulane
This team is currently 3 innings of gifted 2 base runners + bunts + sacrifices better than 19-40 Tulane.
Nobody but Skenes was beating Tulane yesterday.

That's a large overstatement.

Do you know what THE advantage of becoming a Top 8 National seed and hosting is?
THE advantage is that you get one of the weakest 4 seeds in the tournament. That means you can save your ACE to the much more difficult 2/3 seed game. The 2 & 3 seeds almost always pitch their Ace in game one.
Therefore, THE advantage is, for all your hard work, all season long, to obtain that Top National seed, is that you get to use your Ace against the 2/3 winner’s 2nd best starter.
JJ blew that advantage by starting Skenes yesterday. No other way to spin this.

That’s since April 9th. They averaged 6.16 runs/gm prior to 4/9. Not sure why but they have had a significant jump in offense.
10 of the 28 games were against teams outside the Top 100 in the RPI. 8 of the games were against Arizona and Arizona St who are 8th and 10th (of 11) in the conference in ERA. (Utah is 11th and they are one of the teams outside the Top 100 during the streak.) 3 of the games were against Grand Canyon and Sam Houston St who are only Top 100 because they are strong offensively, not pitching. One was against Oregon’s midweek pitching. That leaves only the USC and UCLA series against decent pitching. They scored 19 in the series against USC and were held in check against UCLA (5 in Game 1, 6 in Game 2, and 3 in the first 5 innings of Game 3) until they exploded for 18 runs in the last 4 innings of Game 3. Overall, it seems like they really punish weak pitching, but aren’t as formidable against better pitching teams. That’s not really shocking, but it does explain the explosion during a period they faced such poor pitching.

If that is actually true, then LSU is going to lose the regional anyway, so they gained nothing by pitching Skenes. In that scenario, their best shot was to “hope” they could sneak past Tulane with a lesser pitcher, ride Skenes to victory in Game 2, then hope to steal a game after that by outslugging a team with a depleted pitching staff.

No. No you couldn’t have. But you keep lying to yourself if it makes you feel special.

I appreciate the condescension, but yes, I know THE advantage of getting a national seed is that you get to play all your regional and super regional games at home, i.e. to host.

One, that’s not true. 4 seeds are placed as much based on geography as anything. Otherwise, why didn’t Tulane, who most on here are crying about being the worst team in this tournament if not the HISTORY of the tournament, would have been shipped to #1 Wake Forrest. Hell, Clemson is #4 to our #5, and they got rewarded with Tennessee as their 2 while we got Oregon State.
Secondly, even if they did do it that way, and Wake got the worst 4, Florida got the 2nd, we got the 5th, etc…that advantage would pale in comparison to the advantage of playing at home. I’d much rather have the best 4 seed in the Box than the worst one at a neutral site.

You are assuming that Jay thinks Oregon State with their 4th starter is “much more difficult” than Tulane with their 1. We didn’t play 19-40, February-May Tulane, we played Tulane on June 2nd, coming off a hot week where they won their conference tournament. And we’re not playing February through May (and whatever their record is) Oregon State tonight—we are playing June 3rd Oregon State that's down to their 4th starter.
I didn't like the move either—I wouldn't have pitched Skenes yesterday—but I am humble enough to concede I'm not privy to all the information Jay and his staff are, and they very well may have liked the matchup with Oregon State and their #4 more than Tulane and their #1.
So you say THE advantage is being able to throw your ace Game 2 against the 2/3 winner. I say it's to be able to throw him against whoever you think gives you the best chance to win the regional, the Super, and hopefully the CWS. And obviously, Jay and the staff disagreed with us. But they did so with access to much more information than we did.

Seeing Crews look like the hitter we all know and love last night was extremely encouraging. If he stays hot as well as Dugas/White then the offense is going to light their pitching up. I also have plenty of confidence in Floyd keeping them in check.

A Coach is paid mega bucks to Coach and make decisions he feels is best for the program.
Yet, apparently we could have done better, for free, by polling the experts on the Rant.
Wonder these "Ranters" records in big games.
Wonder if they are betting on Oregon State.

LSU only scored 7 runs yesterday. Don't know how anyone can confidently say that any other pitchers would have won that game.

Three of the Top 16 seeds lost last nite while not starting their ace. As much research & film study that CJJ puts into games like this weekend, I believe he & CWJ knew /know what they are doing. Anyone here watch the staff's practices this week? Mabe they all dominated ? Anyone here know anything beyond the basic stats of the remaining Beavers' staff? CJJ researches the shite out of things like this.

Again, this is not true. Coastal Carolina pitched their version of Arkansas’ Hagen Smith. He didn’t start regularly on Friday, but he was their best starter. He just had a hybrid role necessitated by their loaded midweek schedule. He shutout Rider for 6 IP. The bullpen lost the game.
In the other two cases, they didn’t start their ace, but neither case makes the argument that they should have done so. Auburn’s starter gave up only 1 run. They lost because the offense had only 4 hits in 11 innings. Starting their ace may have simply resulted in wasting him on a loss. Oklahoma St didn’t just throw their #2 or #3. They took the unnecessary risk of throwing a pitcher with only 3 appearances and 1 start in conference play.
