There are only 11 teams left with a shot to make it:

ACC (1): Clemson
Big 10 (3): Ohio St., Minnesota, Penn St.
Big 12 (2): Oklahoma, Baylor
Pac 12 (2): Oregon, Utah
SEC (3): LSU, Georgia, Alabama

That's it.

After this week it is likely that you can scratch Penn St. and Baylor off this list.

In addition to rooting for the Tigers, pull for Clemson to finish out against their phantom schedule; Oregon & Utah to each finish the regular season with one loss; and Oklahoma to not stumble again and OSU to win out.

No way Bama gets in over a 1 loss Big 12 champ or a 1 loss Pac 12 champ.

Yes they will...if they win the PAC XII with a 12-1 record.

Auburn will have 3 losses when Bama plays them.

Using that kind of reasoning makes us no better than Bama. Lose your conference championship, no playoff.

Wrong. LSU would have at least played the extra game to get this 1 loss. It’d be the same scenario how UGA and Bama got in 2 yrs ago. With that said, UGA can’t score with LSU........

In a perfect world, this would be correct. But, not all conference champions can make the playoff, even if they were all undefeated.

For now, some subjective assessment is needed. And, without a strict set of rules to follow on selection, the committee will talk in circles to justify whomever they select.

IMO, when several teams have the same record and one team must be selected over the others, the first criteria should be their resume. How many qualities wins do they have and who did they lose to? Not, well Team A just passes the eye test.

In that case it would probably look like this:

1. Ohio St.
2. Georgia
3. Clemson
4. LSU

If such a thing happens Bama wouldn't have a case at all.

That's my (unpopular) thinking as well. You shouldn't go to the CFP if you don't win your conference period.

You’re right - if we avoid a misstep and these other teams keep winning, Bama will get edged out.

The playoff games should not have any rematch of teams in the same conference regardless of who is playing, it is called the NC not regional championship.

I think you're absolutely right, but I really hope they beat an 11-1 Utah in the conference championship game just the be on the safe side.

They should be. Would love for Minnesota, Oregon/Utah, Clemson, LSU to win out.

1 v 4 | LSU v. Oregon/Utah winner
2 v 3 | Minnesota v. Clemson

Would be as good a draw in the playoffs as we could hope for

ETA: North, South, West and East would all have a representative too

I agree 100%. If somehow LSU and Bama both get in, the committee should adjust seeding to prevent us from playing Bama in the semifinal round. That won't happen because it could possibly lead to an all-SEC final, but it's not right for us to face Bama again unless it's in the championship game.

Hopefully, the BIG XII and PAC XII teams take care of business, so Bama will become an afterthought.

Oregon’s and Utah’s last three games are all teams with losing records

They have no excuse to not meet each other at 11-1

Bama getting into the playoffs will be bad for college football since it only encourages scheduling cupcakes and avoiding difficult matchups.

Yes.
That’s why the BCS was so good. SOS was important and encouraged good games that was good for the fans

No way in hell they beat Oklahoma, Texas, and Oklahoma again in the Big XII title game. They’re not winning out
