Jones did not play him in the proper position. He is, despite his physical stature, a 1, and Jones made him play as a 4. Now, it was partly out of necessity but I have to wonder what it would have been like to have him as a pg for a season.

Square peg, round hole, and I’m sure we would all be frustrated with that experience. My hope is that with time and maturity he looks back and realizes his time spent here wasn’t worthless and he will join the flock of former athletes who help to promote the school.

Why should he sugarcoat his experience?

because there is literally no way he didn't learn anything about himself.

I'm not hating on him. I just think he was a bit cold towards LSU, and I don't believe everything he said.

This is probably from the perspective of someone too young and stupid to ever see any of the games during the 80’s or 90’s. Go freaking reasearch the 79-85 drafts. Look at the number of greatest players from that era. LeBron is probably just eclipsing Bird as the best 3. Barely. Still at he end of the game give me Bird.

I'll admit i'm only 30 years old, but I grew up watching all the old games as well. ESPN classics was constantly on in my household, as I come from a basketball family. 80's basketball is fun to watch, but the athletic ability and general evolution of the game has changed dramatically, for the better.

I also have forgotten more about basketball than you know. I can say that with absolute certainty, unless you've coached and played in college.

LOL at Lebron barely eclipsing Bird. You are out of your mind. Go find me a metric you are basing that off of and we can talk.

Lebron is better in almost every metric besides rebounds. Larry Bird was never 1st team all defense, Lebron has made that 6 times. Lebron has more points, equal rings, more all stars, more finals MVPs, more all NBA first teams, scoring champ (Bird never was), over 2,000 more assists than Bird, roughly 2,500 more playoff points, etc etc...

Bird was a better rebounder and a better FT shooter. And a slightly better 3 point shooter.

I love me some Larry Bird. I was 33 in AAU most of my life. But Lebron is significantly better and anyone that could say they'd take Bird > Lebron is either living in the past or hasn't bothered to look at the numbers.

Quinn was at LSU for two years and is from Louisiana and always loved the Tigers as a kid.

Big, big difference.

These recruits watch the NBA constantly. How many THOUSANDS of times over the next 12-15 yrs are Ben Simmons and LSU going to be linked together on these broadcasts? How about on the recruiting visits to LSU and a kid sees Shaq statues and posters and Ben posters and possibly a statue one day? You can't put a price on that kind of exposure to recruits. This ain't chinese arithmetic!!!!

Instead he took that opportunity to basically say he doesn't give a frick about LSU and his time here was a waste.

It was a waste. He didn’t grow as a player we didn’t accomplish anything as a team.

Johnny Jones wastes the frick out of his time here

That was part of it but IMHO is the main issue was there was no accountability and that went double for a player of Simmons' stature.

A coach with some credibility could have gotten Ben to be part of a team and system. Jonny was a good guy but it was blatantly obvious neither Ben or many other players respected him.

I did coach as a volunteer assistant for a high school years ago and my dad was a ref (and we both were umps).

Metrics dont measure heart and the ability to finish. Bird also went to college for 4 years so there is a difference in time in the league. Add in 4 more years of stats with a young Bird in the league...
Bird got more tough rebounds and was deadly from 3. LeBron had a horrible jumper for the first 8 years of his career and until the finals a couple years ago when he blocked that shot in game 6 or7 never really showed me the determination to win.
That’s when I said he passed Bird as the best 3.

shite man, LeBron recently went to Hakeem and got coached so he could get better in the post with his footwork. Bird beat Hakeem in ‘86. WTF..

You can’t look at the way defense is allowed to be played today versus then. Then there were no easy fouls. Pete would get killed in the 70’s by players like Frazier and others but no calls. There wasn’t a flagrant foul then.

Go watch 70’s basketball and get back to me on athlitic ability.
Pete in today’s game dominates all of hem especially Curry. He was 6’5-6” and had rediculous handles.

Curry gets absolutely taken to the cleaners by Jordan, Pippen, Dumars and Mad Max for example defensively. He is CJ. Nobody in this league today stops MJ, Pip, Malone and Stockton.Had CJ not have to double move and get off his Meds, he dominates.

The funny thing is people think it’s difficult to defend these teams today. Paul Westphal was doing that shite long ago with CJ abt Denver and those Loyola Maramount teams did the same shite with kimbal and Gaethers. That was ABA Basketball.
I was in school when Pete played.
I’ve seen a lot of basketball and I would say 2 things:
1. Connie Hawkins and Dr j and Pete were generational talents.
2. Nobody was better than Wilt including Jordan.

His statements could partially be viewed as criticism of the rule that MADE him go to college.

There was no rule that made him go to college. He could have sat out a year, played pro in Australia or played in the NBA D League. It was his choice to play college because that is where he would get the most recognition, publicity, etc. and would be his best chance to be the number one pick in the draft, get big shoe endorsements, etc. That season, which was such a disaster for LSU, was great for the Ben image. He was hyped by every sportscaster in America. Whether you believe it was true or not, it was always the fault of the coach and his teammates that LSU didn't win more games, never Ben's problem.

Basically the same team without him was better the year before. So are you sure about that?

I have defended simmons from his first criticism After his recent comments it is obvious His lone year at lsu was to showcase ben simmons and that coach jj assumed that would lead to success for lsu basketball. Didnt turn out that way.

Lol what? We lost two players to the NBA Draft.

People will practically rewrite history to knock Simmons.
