keep Pap behind the plate. Just need to find a way to get Romero in the lineup

Agreed ell...although the numbers don't support it, Pap was probably the most impressive overall player this weekend. We all know what he can do behind the plate, we were just waiting to see if he could make the adjustment offensively. He was squaring up balls in almost every at bat...just hitting them right at the defense.

Yeah I say keep Pap behind the plate
Doug Thompson said this morning that Pap's defensive play on saturday was one of the best performances he has ever seen. 9-9 blocking balls in the dirt with runners on and keeping them from advancing.
That coupled with his making solid contact all weekend and having a couple loud outs has solidified his spot further.
Only way Romero gets in is midweek games, giving pap a rest, pinch hitting, or DH.

Still don't trust Stallings as a closer.
I was very impressed with his outing. ok, a batter slammed one of his mid 90's fastballs. he timed it and was timing it from the start of his AB. however, Stallings came back and established both his curve ball and his changeup and retired the next 3 batters. I value a pitcher with 3 pitches very much. last year, Stallings had 2 and when one wasn't working he was screwed.
people won't like this but who I don't trust is Valek and Poche. Valek is new and I admit I favor fast ball pitchers as opposed to these "crafty" guys, esp right handed "crafty" guys. he gave up 2 homers in one inning and that didn't surprise me at all (even tho he had managed to get to that point with no earned runs given up. as far as Poche goes, imo, he has butterfly issues. he often starts shaky (not too unusual) and seems to implode often. PM needs to be like that Cincy coach and have a quick hook with him. PM likes to give his pitchers the chance to pitch out of jams and I like that (a lot) but I think Poche should be the exception to that. I've seen him too much to not be nervous as hell with him on the mound. i'm just waiting for the implosion and it comes in many different forms.

I think you are correct. it's hard not to consider their bats last year tho so maybe they will improve a lot this being their second year. Bryce not hitting cinci pitching is concerning. imo, PM should have him on his "probation" list and continue to give these new guys lots of AB's.
Neither Jordan brother hit Cinci pitching. They got 3 hits combined in 28 plate appearances this weekend, Beau just hit one out. What they are good at is getting on base. They are never going to be .300+ hitters on this level, but they can be .350+ OBP guys. They will straddle the plate and take one for the team to get on. I think as others develop they move to the lower half of the order this season and it's not a terrible thing to have in the bottom half of the lineup.
Based on a who potentially develops as the season goes along I could see:
1. Duplantis RF (L)
2. Freeman SS (R)
3. Fraley CF (L)
4. Adams 1B (R)/Wofford 1B (L)
5. Deichmann 2B (L)
6. Papierski C (S)
7. Beau J. LF (R)
8. Romero DH (R)/Bryce J. DH (R)
9. Lochridge 3B (R)
Really tough to decide bottom half of lineup, I think to give a slightly difference look you can move Pap down some, but I like his bat a lot, he got some good contact this weekend. Romero had a great weekend but he wont be full time DH being the backup C. I think with Romero you can move him in the lineup but with Jordan you move that spot down. Could do Freeman/Duplantis 1/2 as well. It's a flexible lineup, at least.

Saying they'll never hit over .300 is retarded.

Not really, I'd be shocked if they ever do. If they weren't going up against SEC pitching, certainly, but they are jsut scrappers, not guys who hit for high averages at this kind of level.

Here's my thoughts on the weekend...not that they matter.
I'm not trying to hate on the kid, but there is no place for Kramer Robertson in this starting lineup. If you're going to go 1-12 as a Junior, we may as well play a freshman and let them go 1-12, but know that they can progress.
PM is crazy if he doesn't find a way to get Romero and Loch in the lineup.
I do really like the Jordan's because they are just "Charlie Hustle" type players. They didn't swing it well, but they'll take a fastball to the ribs and then get dirty on the bases.
We are going to take some lumps with so many newcomers, but the future is bright. It's only been three games, but under the bright lights some of the freshmen really stepped up.
My starters (not batting lineup)
C Pap
1st Deichmann
2nd Loch
SS Dawson
3rd Freeman
RF Duplantis
CF Fraley
LF Jordan/Breaux
DH Romero

give kRob a break. the dude is playing with a busted face.

quote:We hit 0.229 as a team this week. And that includes Fraley (5-13) and Romero (3-4). Two guys; a 3rd of our hits. No one lit it up besides Remero.

As long as they are getting on base I dont care how they do it. 7 BB/HBP between the two of them for the weekend is nuts
If this mentality is how we're going to play it with the jordan twins then we need to rethink their place in the line up as well as their ABs.
They batted in the line up...
Friday - Bryce/2nd Beau/4th
Saturday - Beau/4th Bryce/5th
Sunday - Bryce/2nd Beau/4th
Last time I checked, batting .182 (Br) and .100 (Be) are not what I want my meat of the lineup guys doing. Now if CPM is in love with their scrapiness and loves their OBP and awful BA then put them at the 7-8-9 range.
But I personally want to see some guys especially in the 4 hole that can put the ball consistently in the outfield, i.e. Kramer......

For the last two years?
I like his glove. I don't hate the guy just from a business perspective I'd rather a young guy get experience over someone that has had opportunities and hasn't done much. He could step it up and light it up next weekend. Anything is possible.

Freeman went 4-10 and Loch went 2-5. Not that it's lighting it up, but it shows promise.
Also, you can't just throw out numbers and not take into account the flow of the game. Getting a hit is one thing...getting a hit or at least drawing a walk with runners on is even more important.

I'm always uneasy with Poche on the mound.
Posted on 2/22/16 at 10:37 am to BilJ
He's not a complete game pitcher. For some reason Mainieri likes to try to extend him too long. Did it last season and again Friday. Before he gave up the two runs in the 7th I knew he was going to screw it up because he wanted Poche to face the lefty with a righty on deck.

Want to talk about flow of the game?
KRobs double was a huge part in us winning Friday. We lose without it along with many other plays. He drew walks. He put the ball in play 11 times.
I'm not saying he's "good". But the shite he gets here is laughable.

Actually I think its warranted.
20-100 his first season
13-56 his second
1-12 currently

This team still struggles in making decisions on when to pull/not pull a pitcher.
