re: One of the best descriptions about how the Orgeron hiring process went down.

So let's say the bar is 8 wins. That was Miles' season low winning total throughout his career at LSU IIRC. If Orgeron wins 8 games, his buyout is full amount, $12m year one. However if the win total is seven, then the buyout drops to 50% being $6m. Then at 6 wins, buyout is 25% ($3m), and 5 wins or less = $1.5m buyout, year one.
Or, how about this, LSU gives a retread, dumbass coach that nobody in the damn country wants a $0 buyout. What's O going to do, turn it down? This was clearly a Joe Alleva insurance policy in case he sucked, O couldn't be fired which gives Alleva more time. What a con job from all involved.

Did Alleva even contact Herman prior to November? We had MONTHS before Texas even knew they were going to search for a coach to get a deal done. That can't be said enough, and yet we did absolutely nothing. It's almost as if Alleva forgot we had to find a coach and then turned on ESPN one day and realized Texas was singing Herman, so he panicked and asked CEO to be the head coach.

Alleva was a fool, but what about the BOS members who approved this deal?
I am not joking when I say Orgeron must be giving kickbacks to Alleva and board members. That is the only explanation for this contract being approved.

Whether you agree with the premise or not, that article is 20/20 hindsight by USA Today. Where was all of this criticism when the hire was made, or at anytime prior to the Troy debacle?

there was a LOT of bitching and criticism in November when it was announced.
i could show you posts i personally made on other boards begging for it not to be O as soon as he gained a little steam after the Mizzou game.

Anyone on this board could have gotten a better contract than this dumbass.

This whole deal reeks of good ol' Louisiana back room politics. Also, why are so many BOS members from the New Orleans area?

I have not seen or read anything which says exactly when Herman's agent was first contacted.

i assume that since we had an alleged deal done with him before the year was over, that we had been talking for time
we obviously hit up Jimbo first, but after when we went to TH, you don't get a deal like that done during the football season in a few days

Plenty of fans were outraged. I, like any person with a brain that has followed LSU their entire life, knew you can't just stick any idiot in charge and we be winning titles.
LSU fired one of the best coaches they have ever had. Wtf did you think was going to happen?

Diid Alleva even TRY to outbid UT?

No - the CheeriOs said that LSU couldn't get into a bidding war with UT, so no use even trying.

Where have you been for the past 12 months? There were plenty of people complaining about this.

But rather than take a breath, hit the reset button and start the coaching search for Les Miles’ replacement all over again, LSU was humiliated and went into panic mode. The next morning, on Nov. 26, Alleva called Ed Orgeron and offered him the head coaching job.
Ed Orgeron. To be the head coach. Of the LSU Tigers.
There were two problems with that. First, hiring Orgeron is ridiculous enough. Though it was a decade ago, his tenure at Ole Miss was a train wreck of legendary proportions, so handing him the keys to a top-10 program was reckless at best. Some people are good assistants but bad head coaches. Everyone who watched the Ole Miss debacle saw that Orgeron fell into that category.
where were all these common sense folks when were screaming about this then?

But second, and perhaps more important, LSU made this decision when it didn’t need to. After the Herman humiliation, a competent athletics director would have slept it off, taken the emotion out of it, called a search firm the next morning and gotten back to work on a list of the best candidates. Orgeron was always going to be there for LSU, whether the search took another week or another month. Nobody else was going to hire him to be a head coach. He could have been the fallback option to the fallback option.

F King Alexander does not have the kind of power over the Athletic Department that you think he does. He objected to the fact that LSU was going to have to spend anywhere between 25-30 million to replace Miles and then get a top tier coach in while he was going to our august legislators to beg and plead for enough money to pay professors and non educational personnel. He was going in front of the legislature to go and beg and plead for what amounted to the Athletic Department's annual budget of 120 million for the rest of the school.

I am referring to criticism in the USA Today, not from LSU fans.
