re: Ole Miss has 3,000 donors that give $100 / month for NIL - we have 300

We already pay for everything. This is some underhanded shite right here.
The guy who literally makes his money off of the success of LSU football driving traffic to his website suggests WE need to fund the sleazy player slush fund

Has LSU just come out and straight up asked for donations to the NIL? The straightforward approach would be the easiest and most effective.
BK was pretty direct in pleading for donations on signing day at his press conference. Yet we still have people refusing to do it bc it violates their beliefs about college sports.
I totally understand that but this is where we are and if you want LSU to win championships then fans/alumni need to contribute. It’s that simple.
Nobody can make you donate of course but arguing about what you think “college sports SHOULD be” is irrelevant.
All that not aimed at you. It’s just incredibly frustrating seeing the culture we have where people won’t invest in things bc “I don’t know where that money is gonna go”. Same people who don’t vote to increase funding for schools and roads then wonder why it’s all getting so bad

You should not have any problem with players getting paid when you consider the billions of dollars in revenue generated by college sports.
Then the entities earning the billions in revenue should pay them. The fans aren’t earning that revenue. This is just another increased cost of attendance/being a fan now. As always, the costs always fall to the fans
Correct. I've been a proponent of players being paid off of the REVENUE THEY GENERATE for years.
The conference banks billions in the TV deals, etc. We have a coach making 10M a year, the highest paid assistants, and the list goes on and on.
I get paid at my job due to the revenue I help the company generate. Period.
Get a scholarship, perform, become an all american then get paid based on that performance, get drafted into the NFL, and so on.
This is just more "if you're a real fan you will give this billion dollar entity more of your money".
Nope. This is becoming like the government now. Then, if we donate, there is no guarantee the players we would want to attend would attend. Frick it.

Usually when you pay for something you have a say in how it’s managed. This is simply extortion.

the future of LSU Football, and LSU Athletics as a whole, rests on the strength of our NIL Collective.
This is just getting started. Pretty soon it’s going to be… you need to give $1,000 a month so we can keep up with Texas. frick it, I’ll find another hobby. I’m not giving my hard earned money so some 17 year old kid can pull up to football practice in a Lambo.

It’s a tax on fandom. All costs pass to the public at some point. LSU athletics have continued to increase their bloated spending, then beg us to pay their players so they won’t have to and can continue to be fat, bloated, and enriched

You are right, I bleed purple and gold. The disconnect is the kids on the field don’t. No way I’m contributing to this broken system. Let it burn down.

I'm in favor of a cap limit on how much can be given to these incoming teenagers each year. Allow each school the same amount of money to spend, that way each team has the same amount in the kitty to disperse. What's going on today is complete insanity, my season tickets is my gift to LSU.

Call me when LSU gets 2999 donors, and I'll make it 3k.
Posted on 12/6/24 at 7:41 am to Relham10
it is because people have paid tens and hundreds of thousands over the years on season tix, parking passes, merchandise, etc.
now they say frick IT we have done our part. we never agreed with NIL garbage in college. we paid enough.
NOT OUR frickING PROBLEM
who gave that shitty contract to kelly again? will they ask for donations to buy his arse out next?

No you won’t. You’ll have another excuse why you can’t afford to spend $20 per month to support the university in some capacity but then you’ll gripe about your experience at tiger stadium from the coaching to the concessions

This is gross.
I watch college football because of the passion and the connection fans and players have with the school.
I watch LSU because I'm an alum, have a direct connection with the school and put in alot of time and money in the school already.
If we're at a point that I have to pony up more money for a bunch of 18 year old mercenaries who will make a higher salary than me and don't give a shite about the school, then frick it, I don't care if LSU sucks.
Burn it all down. This isn't CFB

I’m not. Let’s just call collectives what they are, pay-to-play structures. Let’s allow the universities to pay the athletes, write in contract lengths and buyouts, and get rid of the shenanigans, smoke, and mirrors that the collectives are hiding. Put everything above board.
This way, LSU can choose to use the TAF donations as the Athletic Department sees fit and fans don’t have to donate to 4-6 different funds.
It’s eerily similar to the transition from cable to streaming, it’s more expensive now and less convenient at times

If one really wants to simply piss away money to paying anothers employees, consider donating to St. Jude. You could actually save ones life instead of drugs and grills.
Let your money go to something productive. LSU can front the money for THEIR players.
