That's cool! I was a 6 month old fetus at the time. One of the greatest games I have experienced. On Cannon's punt return I developed a migraine due to the compression waves in the amniotic fluid. Still remember my parents going crazy, as was my twin brother and me.
I was named Billy also!

LSU - Ole Miss were both serious national contenders back then....and the rivalry was vicious!
I think it’s about to get vicious again.

My first game I got to go to was against Ole Miss in 68. At home. The Rebels were coming out on the field when the fans used to be right on top of em and the LSU fans were spitting on the Ole Miss players. I knew right then that Ole Miss was trash and must of done some bad things to be spit on and that I would hate them forever. The good old days are back!!! GTHOM, GTH! And yeah, at age 10 watching LSU shove the ball down Archie Who's throat in 1970 on national TV was a blast !!!!!
PS: I almost went to Ole Miss for college.

Technically our DT blew up the center and his back foot stepped on Eli’s foot.
Technically it was the guard Doug Buckles that stepped on his foot, but both the guard and the center got blown up by Lavalais.

I always thought he called for a fair catch but the refs didn't see it.

Did you know that after the touchdown he also kicked the extra point
He also took the entire team out to dinner to celebrate that night. Paid with 100's. Nice guy

I’d like to see that play full speed. Hard to tell how fast those guys were in those old videos.

Cannon was fast but that was late in the game, uniforms/cleats saturated, lots of juking, he returned a 97 yard kickoff in nine seconds against Texas Tech

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do know that I was there. Overshadowed by the punt return was Ole Miss’ drive all the way to the Tiger goal line after the Cannon run. lSU then put on one of the greatest goal line stands in college football history, IMHO.

I actually don't think Ole Miss claims that one.
I mean, they aren't Alabama or Auburn.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Fun fact: the referee shown running alongside him was a guy who sneaked on the field in a referee uniform.
I thought that some guy claimed on here years ago that he went through the film reel and could disprove that guy's story. At the very least, I'd doubt that he would have run on the field like that mid-play, especially to signal the go-ahead TD against the team that he was rooting for.

The best part about that run is the story behind the guy in the referee uniform running down the sideline with him. Just some kid who, along with his friends snuck into the game wearing pilfered uniforms.

According to AI, they claim 1959, 1960 and 1962 National championships with 1960 being the only one recognized by the NCAA.
Interestingly, in those days the final AP poll was conducted before the bowl games.

I always thought it was weird how he basically only goes forward - almost no lateral movement - breaking a crazy number of tackles, but never dodging any of them.
