Has a Heisman winner or finalist ever opted out?

JD is about 55 total yards short of 5,000 on the season.

He’s 180 passing yards away from being the 3rd player ever with 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. Deshaun Watson was 1st (15 game season), then Kyler (14 game season). Kyler won the Heisman and JD will do it in 13 games.

He’ll play long enough to hit those numbers and get Malik his 30 yards he needs.

That would be really cool if he did that. And if they give the Heisman to Nix (voting is before the bowl game), after he breaks those records the crowd chants "Heisman" as an FU to the idiots that voted for an inferior player.

Its not rocket science. Its all about the timing. - Get injured in the bowl game - Ruin draft process - Lose at best 1-2 rounds of draft position and millions of dollars

But you are just making this up.

Daniels has a shot at being QB3 top 10 overall. The cost-benefit does not favor playing.

Yeah, I still see the NFL drafting on talent alone every single year. It just takes one team. A healthy QB that would be picked in the top 10 is just not at much risk of the NFL not taking a chance in him. A guy that is at best a 5th round pick? That’s a different situation.

I’m not diminishing the cost-benefit analysis that needs to be done or questioning the individual for doing what is right for them. I just don’t see the NFL being very scared off by most injuries sustained during a football game these days. Depends on the plate and their needs.

I think someone is far more likely to hurt his draft stock by doing something stupid off the field while they are away from football than sustaining an injury.

“Can’t see a scenario where JD plays…”

well,

JD is a team guy and if Nabers and his buddies don’t opt-out then probably won’t either.

CBK brought him here and supported, trained him up to be a 1st round pick (possibly). JD Will want to help team and CBK get that 10th win.

If you have been playing football since pee-wee age and you now have the chance to play Notre Dame on national tv on New Year’s day and you aren’t motivated to go do that then there’s just something not clicking there.

JD looks like he is having fun out there - he even chatters and laughs with / at opposing players between plays. I think he enjoys playing football and is tough as nails - doesn’t play scared and won’t be scared of injury.

He is going to play at least the first half and then he, Nabers and BTJ11 will get curtain calls in 3rd quarter up by 20.

I think if he sits out, it wasn’t his decision. He doesn’t strike me as a kid that would want to sit out of a game. But I’m just speculating.

And to be clear, I’d have 0 issue with whatever he decides to do. He’s done more than enough for this program already and will go down as an LSU Legend even if he opts out.

Just close your eyes and picture this season without him.

Why play the sport at all. He shouldn’t have been playing since the Alabama game if only playing for the playoff is what matters.

It’s crazy how fans support this too. Like what is the point if the best players aren’t going to play?

I was there as well. It was great watching all of those Carolina fans take off their black sweaters after the second Hodson to Davis TD in the first quarter.

If we get Notre Dame in a bowl, I can see Daniels and Nabers playing.

They're both close to some career milestones, wouldn't be hard for each of them to reach those.

They know the media is going to make a huge deal out of Kelly vs Notre Dame, and they won't want to leave him hanging in that scenario.

Daniels would barely slide to avoid big hits all season long, you really think he's gonna quit on his team on the off-chance he could get hurt? I HOPE not, and I just don't think so.

I didn’t have to cut grass in the summer of ‘88 because of that game. Won a bet with my ol man. He thought So Car would win. We bet straight up. I got to sit and drink sweet tea while he melted behind a push mower. Ahhh, Hodson to Davis

Agreed. Again, fear of the "bowl game injury" don't make sense. But most claim to be "looking after JD5's best interest". Being scared to play due to the possibility of injury is a cop-out and fad among some of the college players. Football is a physical game. JD5 is a FOOTBALL player. He'll play.

Notre Dame knows Jayden won't play. That's why they want us.

Ist round draft pick and saw two week ago what happened to the Fla St QB

What does that have to do w/JD5 playing? Injuries happen. Look at what happened to Devon White during the 2019 Fiesta Bowl. NOTHING. The man played his last game in P&G and did well.

I would rather give the reigns to Nuss and see how he does. If he does great, then we are good for next year. If he doesn't then we hit up the portal for a proven QB

You tell me, Leonard F sat out, Jamar Chase sat a whole season because he was a first round pick. JD5 also saw in the Bama game how quick it could all end. It's a multi-million dollar decision for a bowl game that most players go to and have fun. It's a week of fun for the kids and they play at the end of the week. Not a big deal to the players as you may think.

I would rather watch the best player in college football run my team’s offense for one more game, but what do I know?

Nuss can get all the reps that he needs in the Spring.
