This statement is not a dog whistle of misogyny and racism but a blaring bullhorn.

This is such revisionist history bullshite. In the history of sports and athletics, there’s never been more of a phony, goofy culture of athletes trying to be Mr Nice Guy in press conferences and giving props to the other team/coach/players. Was it taboo when guys like Ali, Jordan, Bird, McEnroe, Tyson, etc. were the greatest trash talkers of all time?

The main thing that’s changed is that we have 100x more “media” outlets out there to plug their fake outrage and clickbait directly into the palms of our hands, in turn convincing idiots like you that you’re morally superior if you oppose guys talking a little shite while they’re playing a children’s game for a living. Grow up

Agree completely. People don’t understand that class is a choice. It is how you act. It is not your name, your bank account or where you live. How about this throw-back to one year ago: our Lady Tigers were offended that Iowa did not guard the SC outside shooters and that was an insult to to their SEC cousins! We are indulging this “I am disrespected, I am the victim here” mentality. Just go play the game and wish your opponent well after the game. Be a grown up - it is not hard

I know this won't make many friends here.....but I didn't really like Mulkey's dismissal of trash talking today. I'm all for vigorous competition...but I am a firm believer in the old school 'let your playing on the field speak for you" mentality. I know people talk trash in sports. It used to be sort of taboo. But nowadays, with mics everywhere, it's plain as day. A local coach who is a legend would tear into any player who showboated after a play (in football) here im Monroe was sort of my guide post. (Charlie Brown...old Neville football coach). I absolutely do not like the way the WBB team is given license to act like a bunch of hood rat thugs. (Not racist...but that is what they act like.) Do your job....say "nice game"...walk off the Court and talk your shite in the locker room. It is still a fricking game...where sportsmanship is supposed to matter...and you are teaching kids who are watching and emulating. I love our success...but we don't have to be the Bill Lambier Pistons to achieve it.... Fire away.

Does it outweigh desire to pull for LSU?

This is not an old school mentality.

This is a pearl clutching mentality.

People are not robots. Free expression is free. They are free to express and so are you.

Unfortunately, you are not able to express in front of thousands in a venue or millions watching TV. If you could, would ya?

I don't care either way, but it's funny to me how Clark trash talks a lot and nobody ever criticizes her for it. As they shouldn't, but then our girls get criticized for it.

This is ALWAYS the trump card whenever someone brings up Angel Reese' shite talking on here. It always plays out like this:

"WAH Angel Reese is a thug for trash talking"

- "Well what about Joe Burrow?"

"WAH he only does it to the fans, he doesn't follow players around like Reese does"

- *posts GIF of Burrow literally walking to Vanderbilt's sideline to shite talk*

"Yeah... but... I mean... WAH!!!"

There's always been trash talking... because of better cameras and mics and more coverage, we see more of it.

But it's always been there.

Exactly.

There is some sort of double standard going on here and I don't get it. If people are cool with their male players doing it then they shouldn't care if the girls do it.

Again, I don't care either way.

It's the easiest way to shine the light on the obvious sexist and/or racist beliefs some posters on this board have.

The reality is who cares what you think? The same goes for me, but I seem to understand that fact. Let it go.

Why not? If it works. Its a mental game as well.

And there are people who don't like it, but they watch it. Last year and this year this LSU team has been good for ratings.

Tomorrow's game will likely be the most watched game of the tournament.

And I think the talking has been a little overblown. When Reese told the UCLA coach something when she was fouled out, I read that the coach told her "bye" then I read she something about the article she tweeted. But whatever she said the UCLA coach lost her mind then apologized after so... I like that they let teams know they are not intimidated.
