Regardless of what others do I think as a coach you teach your players to compete but respect the other team. And you are also talking about professional BBall not college or HS.You can call me old school but I think at that level you teach sportsmanship and acting like a champion. I don't care what race you are.

Is there a difference between taunting & trash talking? Back in the 70's, tulane's DB were called The Pointer Brothers because they would get right in the face of receivers & wiggle their fingers after a pass break up. Punter Brad Wing's actions during his fake punt TD was called taunting & LSU was penalized. But to trash talking, take your worst instance & ask : do I really think that opposing player lost sleep over it? Both sides have been doing it for so long now it's like water off a duck's back. Most laff at the good ones.

The problem with trash talk: not everyone is mature enough to keep it as between the lines and never personal. There's someone not mature enough thats gonna wanna fight at times and thats why I rather "always let your game do your talkin". When you can back up your mouth on the court,field,etc ,no big deal. I preach this to our kids all the time

I really don’t see where this narrative comes from. They play hard and outside of a few Angel viral moments, there isn’t much there.
The real question I have is if Mulkey will retire if they win it all this year. She won’t have to deal with all this bullshite from the media and soft arse fans, and she can go out on top.

Is it a serious question or an attempt to play got you? I'm sure I could list a few but most are context related.
I don't think about it much but it's like the law clerk of Justice Potter Stewart said to him when asking how to describe pornography, "Mr. Justice, you will know it when you see it."
So in my experience, I have heard people say "Well, you know he's a Democrat" in a manner indicating he's black and in a tone where it is clear what they are saying but are worried about being overheard. Welfare Queen also comes to mind.
So let me ask you a serious question, do you think "hood rat thugs" is ever used to describe a group of white people?
Do you ever think it is used to describe a group of black people in anything other than a highly negative and prejudicial manner?
Maybe it's just a bad choice of wording by the OP and adding the "not racist" part makes it worse. If you feel the need to add that or open with "I'm not racist but" you should probably rethink what you are saying or at least how you are saying it.
Let me end by saying that racism is nowhere near as bad as it was when I was young (I'm 62) but it also has not gone away. We all need to examine ourselves and do our best to separate the conclusions we come to that are practical and necessary from those that wander into things like racism.
