I can’t remember the last time we had a guy talented enough to start spend 3 years in the program waiting for his chance.

Really?

I suppose many of us have repressed our memories of 2020, to some degree.

Logan Diggs RB 9 games 118 attempts 652 yards 7 tds for the year. Top running back.

If not for JD and his play our offense wasn't doing much. But, carry on.

This is one of the stupidest comments I have ever read on this board.

Player personnel can’t be an emotional thing. You better be brutally pragmatic about it. Stockpile as much talent as you possibly can at every position and let it shake out. There is no such thing as a can’t miss player.

This the same logic MANY on here had in the 2022 offseason when LSU unexpectedly took Daniels. Do you still feel this way? Particularly given Daniels is probably the single biggest reason this program as gone 18-6 in the last two (regular) seasons on the heels of 2 years of .500 football.

Just like in that offseason, I think the current plan is that Nussmeier will be the starter next season. However, the coaches aren't going to (and shouldn't) completely ignore a potential opportunity to make the team better.

Dump Nussmeier for a guy like Will Rogers who only has one season remaining and is largely just a specific system QB? No. But if the (RS) Freshman at Arizona who COMPLETELY turned their season around contacts LSU, they should at least listen

the same way sitting out a bowl game when the team needs you can't be an emotional decision.

if that guy portals and wants to come here, you take that mf right away, no questions asked, no answers needed

Why? I mean, the guys been here for a number of years and what exactly has he done that should make me believe in him? I want to, but why should I?

I guess we’ll see if coach goes after another quarterback as a transfer. I’d like to see a guy who’s paid his dues and been faithful to LSU get his due and hopefully he will.

Bring in transfer and let them battle it out

We are not paying NIL money to bring in a QB to "compete".

Nuss is going to be "the guy"; if Kelly does not think Nuss is the guy then another QB will be here and will start much like he brought in Daniels. I don't think that will be the case with Nuss as I think Kelly and the team think Nuss will be the QB for LSU in 2024.

A successful 2024/ 2025 Nuss will do much for the stability of the program and Kelly can focus on correcting the depth on defense with recruiting and the portal.

If Nuss is better he wins the job. If he’s not then you got a better QB than him.

The issue with bringing in a transfer is identifying the right one.

You can't go out and bring in a guy like Jefferson from Arkansas who will only go somewhere he is guaranteed to start. A guy like that almost automatically guarantees Nussmeier will look to transfer.

That means you have to find a guy with a few years of eligibility remaining who understands he's coming in to compete for the job. Someone competent, but not so established that he runs other QBs off. I think those are few and far between.

I don't think you can effectively build QB depth through transfers. It mostly needs to be done through recruiting.

Just because we didn't choose to hand the ball off doesn't mean "having JD at QB didn't open up the run game". Look at Yards Per Carry. LSU ran whenever they wanted to with great success. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with the OP?

The good thing is coaches like Ed and Les are gone and we have someone who can actually identify and cultivate QB talent.

A qb who doesn't run and is primarily a pocket passer will open the running game more...tell me how.

You are essentially saying it's harder for a defense to prepare for a pocket passer than a dual threat qb bc our running game will open up more lol

I like Nuss and want him to do well but this logic is just stupid.

LSU ran whenever they wanted to with great success.

So our stable of backs ran for some 1200 yds for the year and you think we just did that because we could run at will. Sure thing.

I don't know if I put that on JD though. More on coaches.

Wrong.

You go out and get the absolute best quarterback that is open to coming to LSU. Period.

You do this every year going forward regardless of the QB situation.

Wrong.

Continuity and experience within a system are valuable, especially at the QB position. Simply look at JD's jump from last year to this year. Or Burrow's jump from year 1 to year 2. You're not going to win bringing in a brand new QB every year.

It's never 100% about "best." Fit and situation matter.
