New matte baseball helmets. Is this a permanent change?

Doesn't matter as much for baseball, but for contact sports like football you can argue its a safety concern. Matte finishes tend to be more sticky during collisions, while glossier finishes deflect or slide off contact a lot more. Basically what that means is matte could result in more head injuries.

Tell that to nearly every MLB team. Matte helmets were "in" like 15 years ago

i think the matte looks fine, and, it actually appears better looking after months of pine tar being splattered on them.
