I'll provide the exact correct opinion:

"Traditional" gold/white/gold is the best uniform in all of world uniforms. It should be used a majority of the time.

gold/purple/gold (like yesterday for USU) just looks kind of SWAC. It was novel when they introduced it in the early 80s, but it just doesn't hold up and it mostly sucks. Use it once every other year or something.

white/purple white looks absolutely great, but it is not gold/white/gold. It should be used maybe once per year for a game that doesn't matter much.

LSU needs gold helmets and gold pants. No other color needed for those two uniform pieces. The jersey can be white or purple. And that’s it.

I agree, yellow pants just don’t look as good as the white when wearing our dark jerseys. Purple or white helmets look better too, while wearing our dark.

The gold/purple/gold uniform is much older than that, dating back at least to the early 60s. I have an old Gumbo yearbook with photographs from the 1962 season, when the Tigers wore it twice, at Georgia Tech and at Tulane.

The only thing novel about purple jerseys in the 1980s was wearing it at home. That was regarded as heresy for old timers like me who associated it with road opponents showing up for games dressed in whites just out of spite.

Yes, you are correct. When they introduced it at home, it was essentially the first real time a lot of fans had seen it. I remember loving it then. Now, not so much.
