Under the new rule approved Wednesday, if medical personnel enter the field to evaluate an injured player after the ball is spotted by the officiating crew for the next play, that player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team doesn't have any timeouts remaining, a five-yard delay-of-game penalty will be assessed.
Ole Miss just burned all of it's seasons time outs.... in Spring ball

Almost right... The rule should be that the player must sit out until change of possession or a time out is called (by either team or the officials). There should be an exception for QB.

I just think the player needs to sit out the rest of that possession or series.

Yes? Hence my point

I like that they’re trying to address the issue but now the uninjured player will be told to flop sooner.

Just until change of possession.

I think the player should be required to sit out for that series until the ball is exchanged to the other team.

You’d be punching holes in your wall the first time our starting QB gets a little shaken up and has to sit out of the 4th quarter of an SEC title game.
Given that this rule change is designed to prevent the intentional delay of offensive drives, why exactly would the QB be faking an injury to slowdown the offense?

prepare for the "injuries" to come as soon as the tackle is made...

The point is that it’s not an easy thing to determine live during a game and the broad punishment outlined by that post would include essentially anyone who got attention from the training staff to have to sit for the rest of the quarter
Plenty of players get checked out legitimately and then end up back in the game in a play or two. Nuss did it multiple times last year.

Now what will Lane do?
He will have a designated guy on defense who is given the instruction “if they get a first down or start going tempo, get down and stay down.” I like that faking injuries are being addressed but you can’t 100% stop it.

Nuss doesn’t plsy D. An offensive player going down doesn’t affect the defense. It interrupts the offense’s tempo.
If an offensive player plays hurt to stop the clock with no TOs available there are already rukes in place to offset this.

This was all spurred up and focused on because Kiffin had his offensive players fake injuries. There’s different benefits to doing it on both sides

Not sure why there’s an obtuse competition popping off in here on this post, the point is the punishment outlined in that post is too broad and punitive and you’d have much worse side effects than the problem it’s supposed to be solving.

Do you actually watch SEC games and see the shenanigans happening during the game?

I didn’t realize he faked injuries on O too. What was the strategy there?

Coach gets to huddle with offense minus one guy without burning a timeout.

The game is currently embroiled in idiosy.
