Why didn't they just use this standard? Easy to understand, easy to prove, easy to enforce. Fair and even.
they didn't word it like this for one reason - they want to prosecute LSU and no one else.

This is the exact thing that bothers me. If you have never played in the NFL you are not an NFL player ex or otherwise. Clean and clear.

Since the SEC let an Alabama basketball player play in pro games, then come back and play 5 games with Bama, it would have been hard to make that case.

Very simple and logical. None of these handful of guys nationwide have ever been on an NFL season game roster. They've never taken the field with an NFL jersey on. Since they still have eligibility for college ball under the NCAA rule, there is nothing to bitch about.

Actually, this year it should be kids who didn’t make the 53 man roster.
Going forward it can be REALLY clear. If you don’t pull your name out of consideration for the NFL draft by the deadline each year, you are no longer eligible to play in college. That is super clean and easy.
The issue is they made the 5/5 rule after that deadline this year. Going forward they can make it really easy.

They decided to come to LSU, it doesn't mean other teams didn't want them. This only shows how corrupted SEC has been for years.

These guys are NOT NFL players. They tried out and didn't make a team. Bama guy was on a team and in games...

Exactly. That's how I've always viewed "NFL pro players". If they made the team.Hell that's probably how EVERYONE has defined a pro player in the past.Have you EVER heard anyone describe a player who got cut from camp a former pro player? Can you imagine someone claiming they were a former NFL player and then find out they never made the team?! They would be labeled a liar and a fraud.Period. End of story. That's why we know this is all a show because it's LSU and Kiffen.

And this is the part I don't understand. It was my understanding that if you submitted your name in the draft, you had a certain timeline in which you can withdraw your name and return to college. Well for 2022 class, it wouldn't have been an option at the time if they'd exhausted their eligibility and didn't have a redshirt year to fall back on.
The guys attending minicamps were invited by these pro teams which meant they'd submitted their names for the draft and didn't get selected (as did the LSU guys) except they were picked up at UDFAs and the others weren't.
With all that being said, with the 5 for 5 rule and the strengthening of the pro rules and whatnot, would opening the door for minicamp guys to return with eligibility remaining without penalty open the door for a larger loophole then simply guys signing pro contracts and then returning? We all understand this is a one time thing and shouldn't be allowed generally.
NCAA and SEC (as well as other conferences) have always seemed to operate in the gray. But this situation is where they draw the line due to their own incompetence? Where was this vitriol when the Alabama player came back to play basketball? Or the Ole Miss player that was picked up recently? Or the countless others?

Is a pre season game a NFL game? People pay money to go. They are paid to play. There is a score and a winner and loser.

...because that doesn't address the actual situation at all.
None of these players are former NFL players who have played a game.
The NCAA and SEC don't want these players to play.
I think you just have a basic misunderstanding of the issue.

Exactly, and it is this class of 2022 players that are getting the shaft from the NCAA and SEC. If they are not allowed to play in college this year,, they will have an enormous class action lawsuit against the SEC and NCAA that will dwarf what the NIL would have paid them. LSU should back out and let the players go on the offensive.

I suspect they won't do it, but I HOPE LSU removes the SEC logo from the field and their jerseys. Why would you want to promote the entity who is suing you?
More than removal, if LSU would really want to increase the F-you level, they should leave the field logo and patch, but cover them in black. That moves it from "we are just ignoring you" to "we are outwardly criticizing you"
