I remember that game well, as LSU hung tight until the bitter end, when Kentucky's strength wore us down. Kentucky ended up winning 121-105, but that's deceiving as the final margin was based on a lot of made free throws at the end.

Maravich had 64 points, his 2nd highest total as a Tiger. He made 69 in a loss @ Alabama 2 weeks earlier.

Dan Issel had 58 for that great Wildcat team, #1 in the polls. The Cats didn't win the NCAA Tourney that year, however; that was UCLA in the midst of their run of basketball championships.

I was there. Best bball game I have been too. Followed by another great win to reach final 4.

Add the Houston game at the PMAC, aka Phy Slama Jama

We lost but that was a collection of talent like no other:

Hakeem Olajuwon
Clyde the Glide Drexler
Benny Anders (from Lafayette I believe)
Reid Gettys

PMAC was lit...

Walked into the LSU-Auburn game at halftime when I was a student. Nip and tuck game came down to a final possession for LSU wit 4 seconds left and trailing by one (there was no 3-point shot then).

LSU had a great shooting guard named Howard Carter. Everyone thought the ball was going to him, so Auburn triple-teamed him, relying on a fat 6’ 5” forward, named Charles Barkley, to protect the basket. Freshman point guard Derrick Taylor took the inbounds an shot from inside the Louisiana map at halfcourt. The buzzer went off an instant before the string music sent LSU to the victory.

It was about 1982. Charles Barkley dominated in the paint. He was a freshman as well, IIRC.

I was at this one in the dome. Best one I’ve attended, but LMU has to be the best. UNLV game too. Anthony Wilson bearing Memphis at the buzzer broke my pinky on my 8-foot apartment ceiling.

UNLV in 89 or 90. Don’t remember if we won or not (think we did?) but the atmosphere was beyond awesome.

Also who remembers Dale Brown grabbing the mic from the announcer or whomever and saying “do not throw things onto the court” DURING the games.

So many good memories as a student late 80s/early 90s. Had to line up WAYYYY before game time to get a seat.

UMBC over #1 Virginia.

Or did you mean LSU specifically?
