My favorite game of all time isn’t one that anyone remembers except for me probably. We had Randy Livingston and Ronnie Henderson, Dale was coaching. We were playing Ole Miss in the PMAC and Ole Miss had us down and getting beaten damn near the whole game. The last minute of the game LSU erupts and starts knocking down bucket after bucket after bucket, with a couple or three big 3 pointers in there. The whole team was poppin and we came back and won the game.
It wasn’t on tv, and I was in my living room by myself with Hawthorne on the stereo system calling the game. You could hear Dan Borne over Hawthorne inside the PMAC as one player after another started draining buckets.
I started going f’ing nuts jumping up and down around the living room as LSU came alive and beat Ole Miss right at the very end of the game. It wasn’t a tournament game. No build up for it. No hype around it. Just a regular conference game. It just resonated with me I guess. Getting beaten the whole game no matter what we tried and then FINALLY erupting for the win at the end. It was awesome.

One that sticks out for me is beating Number 1 Arizona and Luke Walton in the PMAC.

Tell me you weren’t around in the 90’s without saying you weren’t around in the 90’s.

2006 Sweet 16 win over Duke.

I was there and it was glorious. Tyrus Thomas made JJ Reddick cry like a little girl which made it one of my favorite sports moments as an LSU fan.

I told my wife that if LSU won we were going to drive to Atlanta for the Elite 8 game. So I did not see it live but the Texas game was pretty epic too.

LSU - Tenn brawl Shaq v Carlos Groves

I remember this one vividly. Brawl breaks out around the 50:41 mark.

Vernel looked like he was about to pop Carlos in the mouth too. Lol
Dale was out there swinging at Groves. It was awesome and crazy.
That was the most exciting basketball team at LSU in my lifetime.
Jamie Brandon, Maurice Williamson, Clarence Caesar, Vernel, Shaq.. we had some talent on that team podnuh. The damn Goon Squad.

LSU Georgetown in Dome. I was really young so memory is not great. Brother and his friend got free tickets from Dale Brown basketball camp in cheap seats. My dad and I got almost bench seats from scalper. Got to high five Shaq. It was such a huge world as a kid. Great event and memory.

Runner up was versus Loyola Marymount in 1990. Loyola Marymount scored 141 points on us and STILL LOST by seven. Final score: LSU 148 - Loyola Marymount 141. There was absolutely NO defense played by either team for this game. It was like watching a tennis match with your head on a swivel.

If you go back and look at that 89-90 schedule you realize just how much college basketball (as a fan) has changed...for the worse. This year it took LSU until December 28th to get a good crowd in the PMAC because of an awful non-conf. schedule. And LSU isn't the only power conf. team that played a weak schedule.

Now, compare that with the 89-90 schedule. In addition to the SEC schedule, LSU played at home:

Kansas
UNLV
Loyola-Maymount.

They also played neutral site games vs. Texas and Notre Dame. The ND game was in the Super Dome and played before the largest crowd (at that time) to ever attend a regular season game in CBB history.

Major teams weren't afraid to play one another. And they weren't afraid to do it on tight schedules. LSU played ND in the Super Dome on Saturday...then played at Alabama the very next day! Six days later (with a game in between) LSU played Florida at home on Saturday then played #5 UNLV at home the next day.

It is hard to imagine for many now, but there was a brief time where LSU basketball was BIGGER than LSU football. LSU played in tons of big games and getting a seat in the PMAC was a tough task. This week's game vs. Arkansas would have been considered a horrible crowd compared to some of those in the mid/late 80's and early 90's. It used to live up to the moniker of the "Deaf Dome"

For me it was 1986 against a top 10 ranked Kentucky team. We were hit hard with chickenpox and without several starters (John Williams and Bernard Woodside for sure). Our kids played their asses off and lost on a last second long range jumper. Only time I have ever seen a standing ovation for a loss.

Final score was LSU 76 - Kentucky 41...

That was one of the most shocking outcomes in the history of college basketball. That was 1987 and LSU was playing really poor basketball up to that point. They called the team "The Uglies." Kentucky was a pretty good team with Eddie Sutton coaching.

As impressive as this win was, it had absolutely no carryover effect. LSU came back home for their next game and were blown out by Florida 75-50. Paulo Simoes was the offensive "star" for the Tigers.

I was on the flight from Dallas to Baton Rouge with the Loyola team and they were so confident that Dale would not try to run with them.

Can't remember the exact year but it was LSU/KY is the CowBarn. Pete goes for 60 and Issel had 58, or close to that. Incredible game that had many lead changes. This KY team was possibly their best ever, and Pete almost singlehandily beat them. I think LSU lost by 2-3 pts. I saw all of Pete's home games including the Fr/Varsity game that had about 50 people in the barn along with me....and that KY/LSU stands out as one of the greatest memories. What a wild experience!
