If you really think A&M moved people OUT of the box, then you lose ALL credibility with me!!!

For God's sake, they ran zero coverage (no safety help) nearly the whole damn game to get more men in the box. It looked like a frickin team portrait at the line of scrimmage.

With no safeties.....2-man routes with max protection should have worked. PERIOD! In the passing game, You HAVE TO win against press-man coverage with no safety help EVERY TIME.

One more thing, if you are going to be a running team, why not utilize your play action passing game more. It helps both aspects

It was a long read, but a good one. One thing you pointed out about the play action, when I think back... I dont recall having seen much play action. Its obvious that we need a new OC, I am sure Krag possesses this knowledge...

IN MY OPINION, I feel like when you play Idaho, North Texas, etc...if you are going to keep the first O-Line in until the middle of the 4th Q, you should be throwing the ball, especially with a young QB. The only way a young receiving core and QB and his line get better is by repetition.

I'm glad you posted this...I think this is the heart of the issue and it's definitely coaching. Against N. Texas we ran 72 plays, 26 of which were passes and at least 50% of the passes were short bubbles to WR's or short out routes. I believe that no matter your opponent, you can't replicate game speed at practice. It's my humble opinion that this coaching staff has woefully failed in their responsibility to get this young QB prepared and ready for the SEC schedule. We are still winning, but we're still playing not to lose and to hopefully be in a position to win the game late.

i read your post and agree with it (many on here have attention spans of a pre-schooler). i don't overreact to our offensive set-up except some hot headed comments right after a game and they are alcohol inspired. i do, however, AGREE WITH THE NEGATIGERS that les needs to make a change at years end in the offensive coaching situation. he brought in kragthorpe but wasn't able to use him and stud just isn't hacking it. it's like he's in OJT. LSU is too elite of a football program for that. and i could be wrong about him learning on the job; he could just be shite at play calling. we have a good enough OL (even patched up) and wr's for a higher efficiency output. i hope les finds a way to "start over" on offense, which may involve dumping krag also but i think he could find some job for him (for humane purposes). the only thing that i can thhink of that would make your post wrong is if mett is dumb as a post and i don't think that's true.

Was it a corner or safety that picked Mett against USC. I didn't think it was the outside cover

I agree 100% with the op. People that continually blame the offensive woes on the QB are idiots. The difference between Mett this year and Jefferson in years past, is Mett will actually stand in the pocket. He will also throw the ball away where Jefferson would take off running and run out of bounds for a loss 4-5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Read it all. Liked it. Screw those numbnuts who have to post they won't read, etc. They did read it but feel a need to belittle an OP as much as possible. They can suck that Tiger D....more than once!

You are right. Two man routes should work but when there are 8 men in the box blitzing every down and the db's are playing press coverage, all you basically have are slants and out routes. The problem is our receivers can't get separation and when they do they cant catch the damn ball ala Beckham. So why not spread it out a little more. Run some singleback sets with 3-4 wide recivers to make them play more nickel. When they start creeping up to the line you run pass routes at the safety to make him choose who he is going to cover. It's simple football for dummies.

This is not the first post about this. Most people with football knowdledge have been posting this since the Auburn game. There is a thread referencing 1-9 where the same things are being said. The problem is more a product of offensive philosophy than execution. If it was a singularity only apparent this year it would be different but it's not, it is systemic and caused by poor offensive game plan, play calling, passing game design. He finally starts to open up at A&M and the Mett throws are off. Well no shite because he hasn't thrown the ball around enough in a game to get better.

First of all, usually, long threads like this are useless to read.

quote:

The coaching staff is doing very very little to help this QB out.

I should have stopped reading there.

The coaching staff CAN'T do anything to help out when WR's can't get separation nor catch the ball. The coaching staff CAN'T do anything when the OL doesn't give the QB ample enough time go through more than 2 reads because you have to be in max protect.

I just find it difficult to understand about any of that.

Instead, people bitch and complain about the playcalling when there's obvious reasons for doing what they do this year.

But when plays don't work and people are too stupid to understand WHY they don't work, their first reaction is "stupid coach! >derp<"

This board has a TERRIBLE habit of blaming coaches and never blaming players for not executing plays.

Bull shite. The philosophy is run run run run and pound some more with a few passes here and there. Never changed.

It worked last year with a competent OL. It's always worked. Why do you think RB's flock to LSU?

I'm sorry Mike Leach or Rich Rod isn't LSU's coach.

Because the OL is so banged up and so young, there's no enough time for Mett to go through more than 2 reads at this point.

Reality is that this OL is pretty decent at run blocking, but pretty mediocre in pass protection. It's been like that all year.
