But who can do better?

We won 3 SEC games out of 18 last year and finished 15th out of 16 schools. If we were finishing 9-9, then maybe I'd ask who could do better. Plenty of guys could do better than what he is doing though. I like McMahon, so it's nothing personal at all. I wanted him to succeed badly because he seems like a stand-up guy, but it just isn't happening.

The sky is not falling.
SC is a Q3 opponent, as is Mizzou.
LSU will not be 0-5, but sure - they should absolutely fire MM if that happens

I agree he will most likely be fired but I don’t think they will fire him before the end of the season.

Does LSU have deep enough pockets to pay for the best players in basketball, that’s the question.

What if the players hate the current HC? Perhaps they may play with effort for David Patrick as the interim coach.

If the ceiling is 14-41 the last 3 years in SEC play then LSU is screwed. LOL, hopefully we can at least do better than that.

Disagree! Job for life, if the wants it.

LSU only fires winners.
Saban left a year after winning it all and LSU refused to hire him back.
Miles won it all and was fired few years later.
Orgeron, best team in history, they gutted his coaching staff, and sent him packing.

John Brady got us to the final and was fired a year later. Replaced with Stalwarts Trent Johnson, then Johnny Jones.
Hired W Wade who got us into the tourney every year. Fired his arse and hired Mac Lucky, to have a job.

He should have been gone after last year. The team collapsed down the stretch.

I just can’t see McMahon making it through the entire season.

Why would you fire him mid-season? What benefit is there to that?

This was a winnable game, maybe the only legit shot at a win on the road and still couldn’t get it done.

I wonder if there might be a reason it was a loss.

Yes missing your starting PG hurt

So you think relying on a true freshman who has been spotty at best, rather than a PG who is possibly the best PG in the SEC, hurts? Holy understatement, Batman.

There were a lot of guys here predicting a blowout loss when word of DJ being doubtful came out.

but nobody can seriously have confidence that this team can get to .500 in conference this season even at full compliment.

How about we take more than one game with our best player out to make that judgment. Though I think you are right, it seems unlikely.

quote:

Verge will have to show the fan base he’s serious about basketball mid-season by reliving Matt of his duties if we are heading towards another sub par season.

He doesn't need to fire him, per se, simply make it known MM is done after the season.

quote:

My biggest fear though, if that happens, is that Collis Temple will be in Verge’s ear and have major influence on the next hire like he did with Johnny. The next coach needs to be a splash, not one of Collis’ buddies.

People continually underestimate Verge. He is his own man and I suspect the next hire will be a good one.
e will be a good one.

You are also what your NIL expenditures say you are. And yes LSU can beat SC at home without DJ and Vandy may have been a loss anyway so KY would be an opportunity for an upset at home. The vaginas on here are impressive.

Won after the 2007 season and was fired after four games into the 2016 season.

Not “a few years” difference.

I agree, but the thing he has working against him is he needs to win the games LSU is supposed win. He can’t lose to the weaker teams on the schedule regardless of who is playing. It puts him behind schedule for a .500 or winning season.

I agree.

I’d eliminate one of the other programs you mentioned in your first sentence, and I’m not talking baseball…

This was an opportunity to win a road game, but it was never a slam dunk. It was a Q1 road game, which will always be a test, even more so when your PG, who is also your best player, is not available.le.

He must be a billionaire gambler, he can just read all his NIL spending intel and bet games according to who spent more. According to him he’d never lose a bet.

He’s never maximized his talent. He has not consistently had the least talent in the league, but yet his 3 year average would suggest that.

In fact, he had more talent on the court yesterday and couldn’t win. Why? His teams are soft on defense and soft on the boards. We got out rebounded by 8 and nearly doubled up on OREB. Had a pretty good game plan to defend the 3, but couldn’t close out possessions because his teams are soft on the boards. Can’t game plan around that, that is a program culture problem.
