The NBA was nowhere close to the league it is now.
Maravich was on some terrible teams. Kind of like Archie Manning having to play with the dreadful Saints.
He would have been Showtime on those Lakers teams.
Imagine him with the Celtics and being able to pass to those great teams.

Jabari did that but dunked his shot.
I don't think Jabari jumped from the free throw line either.

Depends who you ask. Lenny Wilkins and the rest of his Hawk teammates didn’t think so. Bill Walton always commented on how little he actually won as a player. Individual skills were awesome no doubt.
In COLLEGE, YES! better than anyone else PERIOD.
In the PROS, just a very good player, probably averaged close to 20 points a game.
but not the SUPER STAR he was in college.

Prepare for a lot of ridiculous shite like this
I hope so, but It is embarrassing how little quality film from Maravich’s college days actually exists.

One of the few old school guys that would still be good in today's game. Maybe even better in today's game.

Very good enough to be considered a top 50 player of all time. He fought injuries and teammates and his style never fit in. As I said in my previous post he was ahead of his time.

He had to learn how to share the ball even more. His will to push was like all the greats - Jordan, Kobe, Magic, Bird, etc. with the Jazz he found balance and that’s when he led the league in scoring. He was great in the pros to be point no one could stop him.

Last white man to win an NBA scoring title...

I keep watching that loop and it gets better every time.
He was faking a behind the back pass before anybody else did behind the back passes!
He revolutionized the game of basketball.
Passes. Dribbles between the legs are common place now because of The Pistol.
He holds the college scoring record that may never be broken and that was before the three point line.
And he played for LSU!

He had hit his stride and was well on his way to being a perennial MVP-level star in the NBA when he tore up his knee.

imagine if he had had other players around him, who could have played to his style.

Good for him but you can’t create an entire hour long TV special off of one dunk.
Jabari actually did the funk dunk twice in games, but yeah, still not enough.
Pete was the ultimate showman. As the ad for the special said he was doing Harlem Globetrotter stuff in real games.
The freedom his Dad allowed him was something I don't think was ever seen before or very likely since, at least on such a grand scale. It made for very fun and exciting basketball if not necessarily winning basketball.
He was productive in the NBA, led the league in scoring one year with the Jazz. It should be interesting to see as I'm sure there will be devil's advocate points of view sprinkled in that will rub some of us LSU fans the wrong way.
I know on a previous treatment on him year back Lou Hudson one of his Hawks teammates was very critical of Pete. I would bet they might talk to him again for this one.

Dude was the Steph Curry of the 1960s only more prolific from the scoring aspect...PERIOD

Can we talk about Pete's perm? Would have won a ring if he could have hung on for 1 more season.

Double check your DVR's, boys. Looks like the fat broads are running a little long.

Trying to watch Maravich, but this big ole girl is blocking my view.
