Pete was 9 for 15 in his only season at the end of his career with a 3 point line. Giving him conservatively 3.2 made threes per game puts him at 3rd all-time in PPG with 27.44 behind MJ and Wilt.

One of the best SEC shows ever,,I remember one game on B&W TV of Pete dribbling down the court with socks bobbing..RIP Pete

It’s not even necessary to validate Pete by NBA measuring sticks. Anyone who saw him play knew what an offensive phenom he was.
Like someone else mentioned, his scoring was almost secondary to his ballhandling wizardry. Pete would often hit teammates in the face with a pass because he was looking the other way when he passed the ball. He basically invented the no-look pass as well as the behind the back and between the legs dribble and pass. I got to watch Pete play at LSU and I can remember him getting standing ovations just because of the way he would dribble the ball upcourt.
Like they said at the end of the show, Pete was a half century ahead of his time.

Only thing I would have done different is not list the 3% and not list the names and ask everyone to decide which one was Kobe and which one was Pete. Kobe is considered a top 15 player in NBA history, and Pete had numbers comparable to him.
Imagine if Pete had Shaq to pass it too...only problem with Kobe is he would not pass it to Shaq. In 2004, the only person that could stop Shaq was Kobe. That's why the Pistons won.

Yet they posted similar numbers...minus the rape.

Prepare for a lot of ridiculous shite like this
It's great how he still fakes the guy out of his jock, when there wasn't even anyone there for his fake to have gone to.

He was so good that he changed the way basketball was played.

He just made the Logo (Jerry West) look stupid on that play. Pete was the And 1 Mix tape waaaaaaaaaaay before And 1 Mix tape ever thought about breaking ankles!

The cuts of the empty John Parker Ag Center brought back memories!!
I can still hear Sweet Georgia Brown being played.
That tune and Pete were synonymous. Pete made things look so damn easy. The man was a smooth as there was.
I guess he had to be smooth, 1/2 a heart but twice the player as anyone else.

Pete played at a time when the entire hand had to be on top of the ball when dribbling. Anything else would be called carrying the ball.
Not many players could do what he did with that type of restriction. Today players carry the ball on nearly every dribble.

That’s how he became and still is the leading scorer in NCAA history.
No 3 point line and if I remember correctly, freshmen were not to play on the "varsity" team....so he set the record playing for 3 years.
Seems I remember the shot he made that broke the record would have been from behind the 3 point line of today.
PETE

quote:yes, he scored over a 1000pts as a freshman that didn’t go to the record. Also, that 69 he dropped on ‘Bama was on a sprained ankle he got in the 1st quarter. I was fortunate to have seen every home game he played in and it was magical. He also shot over 90% from the foul line. In college, the GOAT!!!!!

I believe it was his freshmen or sophomore year ... the team toured the state playing at different locations. They came to Alexandria and played in the RP Coliseum and our "Jr High" coach took the team to watch them. The team, but mostly Pete put on a dribbling/passing/shooting exhibition that was fantastic. I kept a scrap book of newspaper clippings that I cut out of the Alexandria Daily Town Talk sports section.

Dale Brown commenting on Pete is simply too hypocritical. Story way too dark.
