"Pete played at a time when the entire hand had to be on top of the ball when dribbling. Anything else would be called carrying the ball.

Not many players could do what he did with that type of restriction. Today players carry the ball on nearly every dribble."

This guy hit the nail on the head. Unbelievable how he dribbled the ball. No one before or since has dribbled like him.

Can’t believe it’s still not available on demand and I can’t find any re-airings.

I was reading the Pittsburgh newspaper re the Ala game this evening and saw this article on Maravich, thought I would post it here. Pretty good.

I agree! This is ridiculous that it's not to be found even with WatchESPN. I have searched high and low and can't find it! It doesn't even come up on search replaying on Directv!

He holds the college scoring record that may never be broken and that was before the three point line.

It'll never be broken because anyone good enough to break it will already be in the NBA by that time. And he did it in 3 years because he had to play freshman ball by rule back in those days.

Don’t listen to a damn thing Oscar Robertson said in any of the documentaries. He went ballistic because Pete broke his record with 15 games or so left to play in his senior season. He was one spiteful and jealous dude.

The funny thing O really wasn’t the ball handler because of who he was tossing to for all this assists. There was a guy named Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. who was pretty good. ‘69-74.

He was “y’all” for his time in the NBA.. Pete was a freak.

But hey, who am I but an old dude that saw both play.

Funny thing about Oscar Robertson is I watched an interview he did in that he said the same thing almost verbatim about Steph curry that he said about Pete. Don’t take anything he says seriously.

Does anyone remember the name of the Travelling All-star team he played on before he passed away. No not the Globetrotters but I believe it was Christian based. I remember them playing at the Lafayette Cajundome shortly before he died and I got the Pistols autograph. It had the Bible Scripture part the same as what was mentioned in the Story. Unfortunately I have lost it. Tried Google but no mention any teams after the Pros.
