He would’ve been in certain situations. Goal line and short yardage he would absolutely be on the field.

Peterson is a scholarship player who contributes on Special Teams

Pimpton is 242 lbs, you think he never gets in the trenches?

With the way the limits work nowadays, I kind of feel like this will be the norm across all position groups. Load up on freshmen, separate the wheat from the chaff at every inflection point (spring, summer, etc), and load back up the next year with 40 more lottery tickets.

I dont know that losing 75% of your takes at 1 position after 1 season will ever be considered normal

Yeah, this is definitely on the extreme side. Exacerbated by a couple marginal takes and a small population position group.

242 on a 6’6” frame ain’t all that. That’s smaller than Mason Taylor.

Odd timing but wish him the best.

Isn’t there a transfer window?

You can analyze it anyway you want, but all we see is height/weight on paper. I guarantee he isn’t just getting reps split out wide.

Saying he isn’t “capable” just because he’s 13 lbs lighter than Mason seems like a stretch

The timing really is odd.
There's nothing more unpleasant than August practice, especially if you are a little out of shape and you're not expecting a lot of playing time at the end of the training camp..
However, he had all summer to think about this.
I will not be surprised if personalities or grades had something to do with this

Taylor is the only other capable in-line TE.

Sounds like 6 man Oline combos with Weston Davis incoming

It might have just been the miss state game but felt like Mac was a walking penalty last year.

Well of course not. If he was, then he would be a wide receiver. I wouldn’t say that he isn’t capable, but if you are talking about a goal line 2 TE set I think there is probably a decent size drop off from Markaway to Pimpton

I figured he'd be on FG/Extra Pt, Punt, and anything we needed an inline tight end. It's a solid role. If he doesn't want to grind to beat out the others to be the man who does that it's on him.

I wish him all the best.

& don’t be surprised if some of these young OLineman get in their feels as well come December. You think Echols will want to stick around knowing he will play behind Chester for the next 3 years?

I think the offense continues to trend towards a receiving TE vs an inline blocker and he probably decided to see his way out.

I dont think Green was an EE so falling behind him in fall practice likely prompted this

It's the new way of doing things. I can't win, I quit and I'm gong home.
