The offensive explosion in the second quarter was something to see, but LSU's dominance in the second half of the championship was a quiet sort of dominance.

After two straight three and outs to start the third quarter, with an 8-pt Clemson TD sandwiched in there as well, LSU got the ball with a 3 point lead with 7:32 left in the third quarter, or 22:32 left in the game. From that point forward, LSU ran 35 plays for 242 yards (almost 7 yards per play) and held the ball for over 17 minutes (almost 80% of the possible time remaining). We only scored 14 points because we missed a FG and kneeled at the 5 yard line so the complete domination for much of the second half wasn't as obvious as it was in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, Clemson had four possessions from that point. They ran 15 plays for 51 yards (just over 3 yards per play with most of that on the last drive (33) before the fumble). And of course only had the ball for about 5 minutes. And we had the forced fumble as well.

What a great performance from one of the great all-time teams.

He actually interfered, but if you compare it to all of the grabbing and tugging the Clemson DB's did the entire game, definitely shouldn't have been called. Everyone on the Clemson sideline crying for Chase to get a push off on that first TD didn't watch Terrell manhandling him all the way down the field.

Should have ran a bootleg like we did against Ole Miss way back when, but actually scored

shoulda won by 30 plus just like bama game.

stupid arse coverages in bama game along with ST TD

and clemson it was chase missing a TD and us kneeling near goal line at the end.

NFW i am kneeling there. i am scoring one more TD

we shoulda used screens in first half. waited til second half. they kept blitzing and we did not have time or guys getting open. i predicted this after ole miss game we would eventually need screens.

The only reason we struggled in the first quarter was field position. Throwing a screen inside your own 15 is risky as hell, bad things could happen.

Burrow driving the ball downfield was the correct answer.

And that illegal man down field.

That play was one of Burrow’s best and it got called back.

Imagine if the game would not have started with LSU spending the whole 1st Qtr backed up against their own goal line.

Yeah Clemson definitely played field position effectively.

And they were super aggressive with our back against the wall.

The fact that Venables is still a DC is amazing. I didn’t realize he was the Co-DC on the 2002 OU team.

On that first Clemson punt I always wondered why Orgeron didn’t decline the delay of game penalty

Can you?

I’ve never seen it done and this is a very common tactic in football to get more room to pin them back.

Not trying to hijack the OP, who did a great job illustrating the 2nd half dominance in the natty. But in response to those who point at final scores; if you really want to nitpick the 2019 Offense, look no further than the opening 3rd quarter drives in every “close” game. In each of these games (Texas, Auburn, Bama & Clemson), LSU caped off momentum drives to end the 1st half.

Auburn game might be pushing it, but the other 3 had LSU with a shot to make their asses quit if they put the ball in the end zone. Instead 0 points in 4 tries which was an unusual trend for that offense.

Really hoping Pelini becomes what Venables is. Really solid, older Defensive Coordinator who doesn't really have aspirations to move for a HC job anymore.

Clemson interfered about as hard as I have seen a team do so on every pass and LSU still scored 40+ on them (and that was with Clemson usually in very good defensive position). That LSU offense was just on another level.

Pretty sure those days are over. He does not like shaking hands and kissing babies. He’s right where he belongs and he knows it.
