I remember hearing "people" say that Prude broke coverage on purpose and was laughing at the end of the game ... so said it was to "get back at" the coach at that time ... ???

All the d-backs in the area looked like they were running their asses off to try to get to the guy, so I doubt this is true.

I have to agree that the 1970 Cotton Bowl Snub is probably the biggest disappointment. But at least Texas beat ND in that game. And the Sugar Bowl win in '07 was truly sweet revenge.

there was no timeout. that was part of the problem, weird clock mgmt at the end.

Oh. I just remember them coming from the sideline before the play. It wasn't a TV timeout or anything? Either way, he came from the sideline looking confused after the whole defense was just there getting their instructions.

Wasn't that catch that guy's first career touchdown and he was a senior?

It would have been a bigger travesty had they called holding on that play imo.

I need to see it live, but from those pics, I agree, that's not enough.

Does anyone have the picture of Saban getting hit in the face with a microphone? I think that was from this game.

That truly sucked. To go from 9-1 to "nevermind" was a pathetic move by the bowl community.

It must be noted that Notre Dame's delay in deciding to go to the Cotton is what caused the problem. The Orange, Sugar and half-dozen other bowls would have snagged LSU had they not committed to the Cotton. By the time the Cotton dumped them, everyone but the Peach was locked in. They offered and the Tiger Seniors voted not to accept since they played there the year before and beat FSU. Thus a 9-1 , #7 team stayed home for the holidays.

No. I think that's why the play actually ended up working--probably 21 of the 22 players on the field assumed that a time out was about to be called by the quarterback, but the QB apparently thought they were out of time outs and ran with the play any way.

There used to be a second photo that was even better than the one posted on this thread--you could definitely see one of the LSU players' jerseys being grasped and jerked by a Hawkeye player. Not sure if the photo is still available on the Internet though...

But continue to go ahead and blame the refs for a blown coverage if that makes you feel better.

The coverage was "blown" as you say because of the blatant holding. It is very hard to have tight cover when you are being held sonnyboy.

Glad to see this subject sparked such passionate and disparate points of view! Now I hope UF Skull drugs Bama tomorrow!

I'm too young to remember that one, but that's amazing. Today we would sue the damn Cotton Bowl for dropping us after all the other big bowls had made their selections. The Cotton Bowl snubbed us for Bama in 2005. Screw the Cotton Bowl. They deserve to be a lesser Bowl today.
