re: LSU locks the "Brady Spread Offense" in the closet for most of the 1st half vs Miss St

No.
Sluggish being 3 FGs with multiple opportunities to score on the first 3 drives. Then a busted coverage TD.
Once the Spread/RPO was re-instated, LSU scored almost at will.
Didn't LSU drop some key passes and there was a sack or two in those three drives for FGs?

The bunch/tight formation we ran in the redzone needs to go. It makes it too easy for teams to disguise a blitz

You’ve spent a lot of wasted time and energy to say nothing.
What they’re doing on offense with the RPO/Spread concept is not analog - on/off.
They’ll be tweaking and refining where they can to make the offense more complete, while putting our defense in the best position to be effective.

quote:LSU had one Fluke TD and 3 FGs from mostly the "Tight" formation. There were only 2 plays from the "bunch"* - (3-wide off a non-Spread formation).
They had plenty of trouble defending it. We didn’t punt once in the 1st half. Burrow threw for 300+ again and 4 TDs with a 92.3 passer rating. Clyde had several big runs out of bunch. Both of Moss’ big catches down the left sideline were out of bunch, as was McMath’s long TD.
One of the "bunch plays was a sack, and the other was a 1-yard run for CEH.

I mean i am not a fan
and i feel like you have to spread it out more in the red zone
our biggest issue was our WRs getting mugged in the endzone with no calls.
although BUckeye
YOu know how loves bunch set? E

They also targeted other receivers a lot. There is a reason for this. They want to give Alabama more film and things to worry about. This wasn’t about beating miss state but about beating Bama. The more they have to prepare for the less they are prepared all together. This was a big picture game against a team they knew LSU would walk over.
so we used to say that we weren't going to show anything so Bama wouldn't know what we had in the secret playbook.
now we saw show as much as possible to give them more things to worry about.
How about we just score as many frickin points as we can in whatever manner is the best and most efficient and quit worrying about Bama. They will be prepared for us no matter what we do. Worry about your current opponents.

It also robs the QB/WRs of the Red Zone timing and chemistry they've developed since February.
And LSU is leading the NCAA in Red Zone TDs. And not from some tight - bunch experiment.

Shoop called some excellent delayed blitzes
Actually, the defender who had the RB in man would blitz every time the RB stayed back to block.
quote:
Lewis seems to be keying on Edwards-Helaire again. By the time Burrow hands off the zone-read to Edwards-Helaire, Lewis is already charging toward the hole. This causes a problem in LSU's zone blocking scheme. Center Lloyd Cushenberry and right guard Damien Lewis regularly double the defensive tackle within the blocking scheme, and Lewis will usually scrape off to go block at the second level. On this play, Lewis (pointed out) has to scrape off early to block Lewis. That leaves Cushenberry at a disadvantage, and the Bulldogs tackle pushes into the backfield enough to get in Edwards-Helaire's way. The play slows down enough, and Edwards-Helaire is stuffed by two tacklers short of the goal line.
...
Fast forward to right before the end of the first half. It's LSU's fourth trip to the MSU red zone, first-and-goal at the 8 (pictured right). It appears LSU anticipated the Bulldogs blitz, and the Tigers organized a formation to where LSU's Chase was lined up in the slot right in front of Lewis. On the snap, Lewis charged, and Chase's route snuck right behind him. Burrow delivered the open throw for a touchdown to go up 22-7.

Yup.
And I am getting the feeling that Ensminger & Brady aren't too happy about it either. That this experiment is being forced on them by someone else.

The unstoppable 4 & 5 wide LSU offense was almost non-existent in the 1st half of the Miss St game. The dominant set was something out of the 1970's... everybody lined up in-tight. No famous Spread AT ALL in 13 of those 1st half sets.
Sucks that we lost to Ms State.

All well and good. But the Chase TD came out of a 4-wide Spread formation. It was the 5th play in a drive that was Spread all the way... a 5-wide at 1:44 of the 2nd qtr; a 5-wide at 1:12; 5-wide at 1:09; 4-wide at :58; and a 4-wide at :50.
A 5 play TD drive that took 54 seconds total. Not a single "bunch" or "tight" in the drive.

Bunch/tight are compressed sets which is what I thought you were bitching about. It has been established that:
1. Successful NFL offenses (especially the Saints) use compressed sets regularly as part of a complete modern offense.
2. The natural picks created by these formations make man defense difficult, which is what Miss State likes to run.
3. The 2019 record-setting LSU offense has used compressed sets this season, and used more of them than usual in the 1st half vs Miss State.
4. In that first half, LSU did not punt and scored 22 points (23 if we made the XP).
Did you read the links I posted about why NFL offenses use bunch sets, or do you want to remain in ignorance?

We also stalled 3 times in the redzone
I would have like to see us spread the field horizontally a little more since the redzone means you can’t spread teams vertically.
