We needed just one fricking first down. I think we needed just one yard to get that last first down.
Yup. 4th and 1 at the 50 yard line with less than 2 minutes in the game. Miles made the call to punt it and McCarron threw the screen pass to Yeldon that very next drive.

this game was situationally much different we were never in anything but 3rd and long the last two drives

We did actually twice on the last possession. Both of them were throws behind the line of scrimmage with the defense squatting on all the short stuff.

My bigger issue with CBK is him challenging the call on Brown's TD. We don't challenge that, we got 4 downs from the half yard line.

Defense will only carry a team so far in today’s world of college football and Sloan is still our OC.
Why are you making him out to be the Matt House of OC’s? Overall, Sloan’s play calling was really good on Saturday. We needed some time to get settled in, and then as great coaches and coordinators do, they make adjustments and improve as the game goes on.

Imagine if we threw an INT. Then everyone would go insane.
________
Imagine if we threw a fade to Green for a TD. Then everyone would go insane.

Drives me crazy how we consistently leave time on a running play clock during the final 8min.
Multiple balls snapped with 20+ sec on a running play clock when we are trying to grind out a victory. Compete lack of awareness by Nuss and our coaching staff apparently. Absolutely no reason to snap the ball with more than 5s on running clock in that situation.

There was nothing ultra conservative about our last 2 drives. We threw the ball 7 times in those 2 drives. Even if they were mostly screen plays, any time you put the ball in the air you are potentially stopping the clock which is not a conservative move with a TD lead late in a game.
You act like we ran the ball 6 times, 3 and out each time and punted twice. Was not the case at all.
If we had gone for some more downfield throws and Nuss threw a pick or the clock stopped more, you would be complaining about why do that with a lead when their offense was doing nothing all 2nd half.

I disagree. They used pass to run the clock with screens.
The only thing that killed us was the loss of 7 screen.

LSU last 2 possessions BK got too conservative
On offense, even if a coach wants to run the ball and bleed clock, why telegraph it? Instead, use a formation that shows pass, spreads out the defense, and then run it. Or run misdirection, because the D will be overly aggressive.
But coaches rarely do this and I just don't get it.
(and I'm talking more generally, not about BK and the Clemson game)

Yep. Nuss has to throw that ball to the deep target down the sideline out of bound. It was a fake screen and the blockers release. Sharp was running down the right sideline and the corner had bailed so he's in good coverage. Just throw it away in that direction. The loss of 7 checking it back down to the decoy hurt.

Playcalling on 2nd to last drive:
2 yard run
9 yard pass (1st down)
7 yard pass
3 yard pass (1st down)
-7 yard pass (busted play)
5 yard run
7 yard pass
Punt
Chewed 4 1/2 minutes off the clock
Last drive:
-1 yard pass
0 yard run
4 yard pass
Punt
Chewed 1 1/2 minutes off the clock
We passed on 70% of our plays that you're saying we were too conservative on. Nuss was smart with the ball, and the playcalling was made with the understanding that the defense hadn't given up anything in about 40 minutes of game time.

We ran a fake screen, 2man route on 1st down. Clemson didn’t bite so Nuss threw it to the decoy losing 7 yards on the play so we went conservative after that loss. It was a stupid call that put us in a bad spot.
Ya, agree that was a horrible pass. He should have just thrown the ball away and it was thrown behind the line of scrimmage with a defender on top of the receiver. He fumbles or just misses the catch and its behind the line of scrimage the defender can pick up and run for TD
Only other mistake was when he threw to the sideline late with Anderson in double coverage, could have been picked off. . That was on the last drive i think.
Kelly chewed his azz on the sideline.

That’s not anywhere close to what happened in the 2012 Alabama game.

Were you watching a different game? Because that’s exactly what happened.

You're right...except for the fact LSU, up 3 (17-14) attempted a FG on their final possession and missed. A first down would have ended the game as AL was out of TOs.
Alabama got the ball after this missed FG and drove downfield, ending with the game winning screen to Yeldon.

I’m not saying chum k the ball down the field, but this little quick screens or dumping it off to the backs was there all night. Anyone else feel that way?
Couple of incomplete passes and we leave them too much clock and dont force them to burn TO’s. It wasnt the prettiest thing but it was the safest way to finish.

LSU was moving the ball on their second to last drive (the one where they ran the same play to Johnson 3 straight times). It was Nuss who really killed that drive with a bad decision. From the Clemson 45 they ran a fake WR flair pass to Brown with Nuss looking downfield initially after the pump-fake. However, Daivs completely wiffed on his block and Nuss, under-pressure, threw a lateral to Brown that resulted in a loss of 7 yards. The ball was never supposed to go to Brown. He was a decoy from the start.
