I keep trying to not get excited too much, but putting uo a 198+ this early and the fact that it really was never in doubt against a #6 Kentucky team is really exciting stuff. The PMAC was rocking pretty good last night too. I also thought the scoring wasn't inflated. I felt like we got shorted a little bit but we also got a few bumps too. KJ's floor sticks out to me as one that I expected to be scored better.

It would’ve scored higher had she not adjusted her leotard mid routine. Also she slid her foot a little bit on the middle pass so I think the score was more than fair

First off: I don’t even know where the name Jillian Thomas came from, lol, so sorry about that.

Secondly: I agree with you on six 10.0s; though I think the one that is more likely to make it (and honestly potentially more consistent just because it’s not a blind landing) is if Konnor brings her double. I just think the overall depth of this team and the timing (I believe Jillian may have been recovering from/or was injured this fall) may prevent her from seeing time. I certainly could be wrong, and I certainly would be adverse to seeing what the other 1.5s can do out there at some point.

I agree with the deduction on the second pass. I don’t think she got dinged for the Leo adjustment (my daughter retired as a level 8 and laughed saying USAG says you can’t do that). The male judge was very tight and consistently applied half tenths deductions that we have not routinely been subject to.

I’ll say this until I die, gymnasts are the best athletes on campus. What they do is truly amazing. The skill level required to compete at the highest level requires so much strength and stamina, I don’t know how they do it.

Does Livy have any events? I didn’t see her in any of the pictures of the team celebrating, etc. She still on the squad?

She hasn’t beaten out any of her teammates during the week to earn a spot in the lineup. She did warm on floor so seems she may be 7th on floor.

Why can’t they get the girls leos that don’t turn into thongs?? I think one or two of the girls in previous seasons liked them that way, and it was pretty risqué for a gym meet. KJ must be bothered if she had to pull hers down mid routine. But they need to fix the problem. LSU is notorious on gym sites for leos that show too much.

Thanks for this reply! She was truly a big get in the off season (and one of the reasons I think this team can maybe go all the way). I think one of the reasons that she started off so shaky was getting back into the swing of competing - as she missed most of last year at Florida with injury. Many of the other transfers we have gotten recently are unlikely to have the impact she has had (eg Cammy Hall and Jillian Thomas) and have more of the role you mentioned - fill in as backups. At least on this year’s team - cammy may have gotten more time last year if she hadn’t been injured

I really hope we get to see Cammy in a lineup this season. Is there a chance we would see her on vault and floor? She seems like such a wonderful person, and my heart just melted when she did her floor routine at gym 101.

I have no inside information on the lineups…but based on what I saw at Gym 101 and the general depth we have, I would say Cammy’s chances are likely to be pretty limited. That’s not anything against her - the depth of this very specific team is just incredibly deep, especially on floor and vault. I do imagine though she will definitely get a spot on senior night, though - and depending on how much Jay wants to play with lineups in the next couple of weeks, maybe another time or two as well (I think she was the backup on vault this week, so maybe we see her there if Aleah is still out and Chase doesn’t get more consistent during practice)

Others may have more inside knowledge, but her form on her vault at gym 101 is outside the top 6, and her floor, while very fun, is probably hard to make an argument for being in the best six given the talent we have.

LSU scored over a 198 under DD, just haven't won it all when we got to the NCAA finals.

The judges have their favorites and it shows every year.

I think Sierra Ballards floor was scored really low. Rewatched it and think she could have easily gotten a 9.250. It was basically perfect. I know the first routine is scored lower but shite man. On a side note she has whooped herself into shape this off-season. She’s obviously put in a lot of work.

It was a meet at TN

You have over-scoring in gymnastics, but then you have the atrocity that happened this Friday down in TN. It has to easily be the worst judged meet to date I can think of. It makes the sport look really bad.

quote:

The Tennessee meet doesn't just produce individual records. ALL FOUR teams are taking home new program records.

1. Ball State - 198.025 (top score in the country this year, previous program record: 196.900)
2. Kent State - 197.725 (previous: 197.050)
3. SEMO - 197.050 (previous: 196.175)
4. UW Whitewater - 194.450 (previous: 193.700)

When you have teams jumping over 1 to 2 full points breaking record highs there is a problem... anyways there is a reason the RQS drops every teams highest score because of things like this.

Haha! Everybody gets a ribbon! Kinda like Auburn last yr. They’re back down to earth now though. Hell I can’t remember OU NOT scoring a 198. Squats on the landings and all.

And thanks for the replay. Can always depend on you in gym and softball.
