I know there’s a thread on the meet but this was worth it’s own post. My wife(no pics) and daughter like watching the meets so I’ve been catching them and I like any time LSU is great at anything. With the nation’s leading 198.125 score the Tigers have the potential to make some noise this year.

Ball St was the first earlier in a meet in TN on crack cocaine. But there is a reason why NCAA RQS scoring throws out every teams highest score when doing the averages for rankings

DD could never take us to the top, she had 40+ years, Jay can do it..

Oklahoma hasn’t scored over 198 this year?

Well I guess not. Color me shocked!

LSU scored over a 198 under DD, just haven't won it all when we got to the NCAA finals.

We will see if Jay can get it done

Take note of the lineups. There were several key contributors last year that have not yet been in this years’s lineup. Jay has the roster stacked and is fleshing out who his gamers are. Going to be lots of fun to watch as we improve week to week.

The floor lineup may be the best we’ve ever had top to bottom. We’ve always been strong on floor, but this year just looks different. Tumbling is out of this world.

Is Livi Dunn still on the team? Never see anything about how she has done.

Last night shows you what’s possible when LSU executes on beam. Sky is the limit.

I actually didn't expect Savannah to contribute as much as she has, but I guess without Elena and Alyona there are a few spots for people to earn.

Highest by an SEC team this year.

A gym twitter account also pointed out that no SEC team has ever put up 198 before January 19th EVER until last night.

SO glad I recorded the event so I could watch it later. What they do is Death Defying, so it is exciting.

A huge plus is getting to see Aly Raisman in her debut performance as a broadcast color commentator and analyst.

This is incorrect…when Schoenherr came she was always going to be in on bars and vault, her ceiling being generally higher than either Elena’s or Alyona’s on bars (and certainly vault) (honestly neither of them are in the six best routines on any event on this team even if they weren’t injured). Now that’s not to say Jay wouldn’t have kept them in if his hand wasn’t forced by injury, but Schoenherr was always the clear choice over the two of them and I am glad she has finally got it going after a couple of hard meets getting back into the swing of things.

I don't follow gym as much as you do, so it's nice to have people on this board that are so knowledgeable that can correct me when I'm wrong. I knew she was brought in to compete of course, but I always thought she would serve as more of an injury replacement. She started off the season a little shaky so that may have added to that perception. She did good last night though, and I'm happy to see it. I enjoy her despite her being a former Gator.

Thanks for this reply! She was truly a big get in the off season (and one of the reasons I think this team can maybe go all the way). I think one of the reasons that she started off so shaky was getting back into the swing of competing - as she missed most of last year at Florida with injury.

Many of the other transfers we have gotten recently are unlikely to have the impact she has had (eg Cammy Hall and Jillian Thomas) and have more of the role you mentioned - fill in as backups. At least on this year’s team - cammy may have gotten more time last year if she hadn’t been injured.

First off: Jillian Hoffman not Jillian Thomas. Secondly: come post season, I think she could honestly make a push for our vault lineup given the strength and consistency of the 1.5 she competed at Utah. She didn’t have a single miss and I think if Jay gets her into the lineup a couple times before post season, I’d prefer to have 6 10.0 SV vaults with Jill being one of them over a lead off full. Jill has clean form and posts a 9.975 career high. She’s not to be slept on
