re: Gymnastics Regional Finals/LSU Advances to Nationals Scores 197.825
Posted by lsugymfann on 4/4/26 at 8:18 pm to Geauxldilocks
That actually does worse for their legs and landings this late in the season than you think it does since their bodies just need to maintain what they’ve been doing since September at this point and not changing or adding anything more onto any of their routines.
That being said, if Konnor is out for Nationals, I think we need to put Emily over Madi on beam given her scoring potential when she’s on, Pull Blackson from bars all together and keep Mustari in the lineup in the 5 spot, move Chio to 6 and put Jeffrey 4 (since she has experience competing on podium and at nationals and seems to have higher scoring potential than Blackson. As for vault, we need to tune up Madi’s front pike half and put her in over Blackson since it seems to be cleaner

Was not made aware of that by any stretch of the imagination

The Baton Rouge Regional rotation order. The coaches were given the choice of what event they will begin on. Jay usually chooses bars but ending on floor should be a strong closer for LSU.
If that is in fact our rotation order for semis, the girls can mentally just treat it like another home meet. I believe that also means we will start on floor and end end on beam in the finals

Do you think he chose our order for SEC’s?
Yes and no. The coaches do get to pick their rotation order for SEC’s but they go in seed order so obviously OU being the number one seed chose to start on vault first which left us to chose second and pick the next best most favorable starting order which is bars first

Lineups are posted on Virtius for today. No Mustari on bars and Blackson is vaulting instead of McClain. Not sure those are the best options for today but we’ll see if they end up changing anything after warmups

According to the live scores from the meet, Emily was the only one who exhibitioned on Friday. I heard from the post meet press conference from Jay that she debuted her one and a half for the first time ever and scored a 9.8. I think there’s a chance that in one of the two day meets we may have Ulrich or Blackson vault instead of someone else in the lineup that you listed, but it’s highly unlikely. Outside of that, speaking on Chase not vaulting on senior night, in the pre-meet press conference interview, she stated that her goal for this season was just to be able to flip again, similarly to Alyona last year when she came back for sixth year. I don’t think she was necessarily planning or expecting to compete in her sixth year, but took the opportunity because she still didn’t know what her plans were after college once her fifth year was over and had the opportunity to be at the university for another year whether or not she competed. I think our expectations for a sixth year (should it ever happen again) need to be lowered since it’s incredibly rare for them to make any lineup, especially if it’s a first or second achilles tear with their bodies being as beat up as they are at that point in their career, unless they’ve been a top scorer in the all around throughout their careers (for example if Kiya had come back for a sixth year last year)

Not sure if we can expect Chase back for post season at this point, especially since its been over a year since shes had consistent competition reps on vault. Form wise, I think Vic is the best option because of her block compared to Blackson and Ulrich, and she has the least amount of built in deductions on that vault in the air. As for Konnor, considering she's been dealing with a wrist injury for a few weeks now and was only able to train bar dismounts this past week, I think doing a full may be easier on her than trying to force a double because it requires less force and pressure on the table on her block

Exactly what does our NQS do for us? We already host a regional, correct? Does the NQS just matter for national ranking? What determines our draw for nationals?
Regional sites are predetermined years in advance so most years, NQS tells us where we’re traveling to and who we will face at regionals. This year, because we are hosting, no matter where we end up in the top 16, we will be in BR for regionals. SEC championships scores count towards our NQS ranking however we still will more than likely be a number one seed within our regional so it will just be a matter of which other teams we will face at regionals in the bracket in the PMAC. It does generally speaking, but it doesn’t matter as much this year, except at nationals where the number one overall seeded team usually has the harder path to the finals (though now there is so much parity in NCAA Gymnastics that anyone could be eliminated at any point between the first round of regionals and national finals so there really is no easy path to the finals anymore)

Most of the time, yes, because the crowd has a tendency to influence higher scores, even though the judges do have a code of points they are “SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW” when it comes to scoring routines

Proud to have a good road score. Not sure Florida can count that high "home score" for NQS. It is their highest overall score.
Can confirm: they cannot count this score and now only have 1 198+ score counting for their NQS (198.050) whereas we have now 3 we can count, including this 198.325 (which replaces our home 198.325 in NQS counted scores). If we can hit just as well or slightly better next week at home, we will be able to count both of the 198.325’s we’ve had so far this year

Is Vic’s better than Madi’s?
Decisively so. Madi has always had trouble with that vault, even at Denver
ETA: Vic keeps her legs glued together on the block and gets more height on the vault than Madi which helps her find the landing more easily

I didn’t really see anything that showed Haley deserving a 9.775. Maybe a short handstand but that was it. Anyone else see something?
She had bent elbows on her maloney catch, was short on the blind change handstand on the low bar and took multiple steps on the dismount after underrotating it

Looks like both Mustari and Jeffrey are in on bars today in place of Zeiss and Blackson respectively

i understand and respect that Haley has higher scoring potential than Alexis but Jeff has significantly more experience competing in general in college and especially on podium than Haley does. It can really throw off your swing if you’re not used to it

I think we should let Mustari or Jeffrey go in for her on bars, Put Coen and or Ulrich in on beam for someone and if her body is feeling ok, let Konnor do floor (or Ulrich who has a serviceable routine) Also if she’s competition ready, let Chase anchor vault to get the competition rust knocked off of her cuz we’re gonna need her come post season.

They’re a 2 event team. Vault and Floor are both less than mediocre for them every week, sometimes bars and sometimes beam too. I don’t want to say it’ll be an easy win for us but as long as we are normal, we’ll walk away with the win

That was 2 evenly matched teams. I had LSU slightly ahead but didn’t expect LSU to beat OU in their home gym. Even the head coach was telling the team to compete and not look at the scores, he knew that we would come up a little short due to the bias of the OU judges. The score should have been much closer. LSU outperformed OU in 2 of the events yet the judges had them behind in all 4 events.
Jay has always said that if you don’t win by more than .3 as the home team, you really haven’t won the meet at all because neutral site judges neutralize that gap with scoring. We were within .2 of them, WITHOUT our typical bar and floor anchors that typically score 9.925+ and without Konnor in the 5 spot on beam. Yes she has had some struggles so far this season but we know what she’s capable of when she’s ON. Not to mention, regardless of our ranking going into post season (which should have us as a number one seed for regionals regardless), we don’t have to travel for regionals so that puts us at a significant advantage over oklahoma before nationals in terms of training, rest and scoring

Does she have the ability to take one? I thought the NCAA voted to do away with fifth years in non-revenue sports

At least in the grand scheme of things when it comes to post season scoring and rankings, this score will end up getting dropped for them and we’ll get to count this road score

I wish the judges sat at an angle on every event because the way Oklahoma lands on every dismount with their feet shoulder width apart (not hip width apart) is supposed to be a .1 deduction every single time but they always seem to get away with the mile wide deep squatty potty feet landing
