re: LSU fans’ NIL victim mentality

The thing about NIL is that I fear it will become the whole point of the entire process for some. No longer will it be about pride, rivalry, tradition, or love of the game. It will be love of the thing that gets me paid.
Call me old fashioned but it feels like everyone is missing the point of what was so special about college athletics.
Kind of like a bunch of woke warriors who hate their country representing them at the Olympics. And then quitting on everyone because they were only there to serve themselves in the first place.
There are more important things than yourself and money. Sadly I think NIL encourages us to ignore this premise. I can’t imagine trying to be a coach right now.
One team. One heartbeat.
HOW MUCH I GET PAID?

It’s a more direct motivation with a buyout. “I pay X dollars and the coach is gone.”
That’s not the motivation
The motivation is they want LSU to win.
They. Are. Already. Paying. Players.
And have been for years. LSU has already been taking care of players for a long time

It is.
We are a pro sport now. Just a different delivery mechanism for the money.
Schools with boosters with deepest pockets will still win out. Even moreso now.
A&M must be ahead of LSU in their NIL game.

The players who make the most money will be the ones who are Instagram/Snapchat/tictok famous. Most businesses aren’t going to pay big money for regional fame. Social media is what started NIL, and it’s where the money will be. Not Buckee’s supporting a 5 star OL in east Texas for 10k a commercial.
Very few players will have the notariety to be a face on national advertising. Charismatic Heisman level players. Johnny football types.

We see how the game will have to be played. We will just have to fight fire with fire.

All I heard was about how the AD was prepared for NIL and ahead of the game. Been working on it for a long time. Obviously that didn’t mean a whole lot as far as having people waiting in the wings ready to actually contribute.

Right. That’s why I’m saying that people do not understand the scope of NIL.
They think that programs will need hundreds of millions in backing to compensate these kids
you might funnel the most money into recruiting. When they get to campus, it becomes more narrowed down to players that are performing at a high level. You aren’t going to give a shite about the 65th guy out of 80 scholarship players.
LSU has the money to play the game. They just have to calibrate how to apply.

What exactly should be more important to players than themselves (and their family)? Your idealized notion of how college sports should be? You sound incredibly selfish and out of touch.

I keep seeing about NIL having to do with LSU having money. A whole lot of NIL money is coming from companies looking at the brand. A $ M might have more money than LSU, but the LSU brand is far superior to them and as good or better than all other SEC schools except Bama. Ohio St is the only OOC teams that I would say has a better brand than LSU now, with a handful others in the same ballpark

Well, its not over. I'm not going to freak out until NSD at least.
I think we have done well enough to end up with a top ten class regardless, probably top five. The future is the issue.

Benefits us too. We’re not poor.

There is money surrounding LSU athletics, that isn’t something I’m worried about.
Compared to Texas,Georgia, California we do not. This is a serious problem going forward. Louisianas business climate is laughable.

If you think LSU has the donor class to match large market teams with monopoly backing you’re sadly mistaken.

Think about this hard because I want an educated answer.
What do you think a yearly NIL figure would be for a top 5 team?

NIL is the wild west right now so nobody knows anything right now. Some of us are apprehensive because LSU doesn't have the boosters that other schools do.

the arrogance of poster exchanges on this board is so loud it's hard to give thought to the subject matter.

LSU has kept up for 20 years with everyone else
Not only have they gotten the best recruits, They have the highest paid coaches and best facilities and have rewritten the way to pay coaches not to coach
They have the disposable money to get whatever done they want

A lot of our fans play the victim.
