He averaged 19 pts., 12 reb, 5 assists in his freshman year. Those numbers are better than Shaq’s freshman year. Chris Jackson is the only player I can think of with a better freshman season than Simmons. He did his job, and then some. The team wasn’t great, and it was anyone’s fault but Simmons’.

He will be one of the GOAT NBA players, and was as good a case as ever for NBA entry right out of high school. Rules don’t permit that. He made comments that indicated that going to college was a waste of time for him, because it WAS. It was not a knock on LSU, but LSU fans took it that way because LSU fans will do what LSU fans do best...they eat their own.

Terrific player who put up incredible numbers despite LSU fans thinking he was "terrible". Sadly, his talent and that of the entire team was wasted by a horrible head coach. LSU was poised for a great season if only they didn't have the equivalent of a HS moderator standing dumbfounded on the sideline just watching the game like the rest of the fans in attendance.

He'll be forgotten as a great player in LSU history until....he blows up in the NBA and every fan will fall all over themselves to "claim" as an LSU guy.

He was great at LSU, but the team sucked because of coaching so he gets the blame.

Everyone knew he was here 1 year but still got mad he didn’t care about school work.

Those who encountered Ben Simmons off the court will tell you that dude is a gigantic POS who should have simply gone to play pro ball in Europe rather than come to LSU.

I know the "One and Done" students are really just acting like a college student but most still have pride in their university/team. Ben wanted nothing to do with LSU and I say F him.

If he had led us to a deep tournament run, he would be praised forever. But because we ended up turning down an NIT invite, all the blame goes on him, for whatever reason.

See Auburn fans with Cam Newton, they will ride to die for that guy who was there for 4 months. He was never there to play school either and could give a shite less about Auburn. It was not even his first choice.

He was overrated, weak, a pussy, and a poor excuse for a leader at LSU.

Fortunately he’s in the NBA and I dont have to watch him play anymore.

You’re making this up.

People don’t like his body language, even now in the NBA. His teammates, outside of Quarterman, liked Ben.

Why would I celebrate a former player who explicitly said that his time at LSU was worthless?

It’s fine to feel that way, but he’ll never be someone I see playing in the NBA and tell all my buddies he played at LSU.

He was a freshman and one of the best in NCAA history statistically.

You people are so petty.

That era of Bball will always go down as a "What Could Have Been" moment to me. In the end, you had a terrible coach who couldn't reign in a kid with obvious attitude problems. When they seemingly bailed on postseason play because the NIT wasn't good enough or whatever, I think they alienated everyone.

That would make a great 30 for 30!!

"What could have BEN."

The hate on Ben Simmons stems from the fact that he said LSU was a waste of his time and he didnt learn anything.

Thoughts on Ben Simmons?
A really talented basketball player who made it obvious he hated having to play one year in college before going to the NBA.

Thank you cj35. I was too young back then to know much about that era.

I heard Joey Gallo say some very complimentary things about LSU. Even though he never made it to campus he reps LSU better than Simmons.

Pretty much sums it up.

If he had just kept his mouth shut and went quietly about his business after he left here, then I might be inclined to root for him a little in the NBA...but instead he chose to speak out and portray LSU in a negative light. For that, I say Nobody can argue that he was a great player, but I don't give a shite about his stats and

He still doesn't bother to defend. He'll never win anything with that sort of attitude.
